a while back I had an issue where I was breaking wheel studs regularly....come to find out the cheap lugs that a no-name autostore sold me didn't have the 'acorn' style head and it was causing my rims to not seat properly. After a while it was just too much for the studs, and I broke about 5-6 on the front wheels shortly after installing the coilovers. I took the lugs back, but the store said since they were designed to fit my application that they would not fix any damages. I guess you get what you pay for. Now that I've fixed the problem (got a good set of wheel lugs), I can still see risidual damage to the area that holds the studs. I have two questions about this:
Do the wheel studs mount into the backside of the brake rotor, or is there another piece that I should consider replacing? I'm afraid that the holes might be a little chizzled from the wear and tear during the problem. If the rotor was the only thing then I'd just upgrade to Cobra brakes to even further justify the purchase, but I haven't spent enough time staring at the wheel stud location to tell if they're fitting into the rotor or not.
What are some high grade wheel studs to upgrade to. Namebrand, size, and vendor? I've seen these things on the MM site before but they kinda seem pricey and there's always different sizes listed.
