In my old car, I used to have TRW forged pistons on a block that was bored .030 over with a comp cam with a .530 lift as well as windsor jr heads and GT40 intake. Question is: Why was my old car sooo fast? It was my dads old car that I bought off him and sold to a "friend" that screwed me over. I won't go into detail about it, but the combo was just ridiculously good for the car. Any insight or knowledge about it to help me understand better would be great. Thanks

Matt

ttt i was wondering so i could figure out why certain cams with a specific lift would be better with a certain flowing heads and intake?

Its all about the math. If all the parts of the Combo are matched properly, they will work better together. Car set up is important too. There are a lot of guys who make the right power in the wrong car if you know what I mean. Think about it this way- how would your old combo run with a much bigger cam (for example)? Why might that cam make your car slower or faster? What if you put more gear in the car? Would the added gear kill top end, improve bottom end, or make you lose traction and run out of RPM? I could go on forever. If you had a good combo, especially a mild one that ran hard, keep that information till you die.

Good points to consider. It seems likely to me that the Windsor Jrs and the GT-40 were fairly close in flow characteristics and whatever specs were on the cam must have taken advantage. Sometimes everything just matches entirely by accident too.

Just noticed you're in Palmdale...

yea. The car also had alot of suspension work and 3.55 gears and took off like a bat out of hell. Definitely wasn't too racy of a cam either. I'm curious about building a new motor and wondering if i should try something new or just copy my old motor....any input would be great.

certain cams work well with certain heads, and intake flow...its all in the combo

u also had a really good alum head, nice lift cam

my buddy has a h/c/i car with a very similar cam and gt-40 intake that runs high 11's on a drag radial and a t-5

its all in the combo man, flow #'s are a very misunderstood science...just throwing together parts doesnt always work...maybe u lucked out

i agree that certin cams work well with combos. A lot has to do with duration too and matching it to gears.
