I just ordered my t-56 6 speed from D&D $2625 shipped. I have a few questions. First I have heard I will have to massage the tranny tunnel a bit to make it fit. Can you tell me where and how much, so I can save a little time there. Also I have the stock 2.73 gears and want to know which gears I should get for best performance and mileage.

Yeah, I got the whole kit. I'm glad I wont have to to any hammering and fitting. The last issue of MM&FF was where I heard it would take some fitting. How do you like the 3.73's whats your rpm's in 6th say at 80MPH? Thanks!

I'm not sure. I told the guy I didn't ever plan on making more than 600 and he said I would be fine with this one.

I think if i were to get a T56 i'd stick with my 4.10 gears since you're basically getting a second overdrive gear. That way your first 4 gears are haulin ass, but you save yourself some RPM with 5th and 6th on the hiway. I'd have bought one when i got my 3550 if i had enough cash.

well part of me not getting the kit means my speedo cable doesnt reach. how ever i tach the same in 6th as a 5sp does in 5th....you have to realize that there are two versions of the t56 standard vs viper spec....the standard has a .82 5th/.62 6th(same as fith in a 5sp) the viper has the .82 5th and .50 6th-this is the one yoiu want if your looking for low rpm highway cruising. i got the standard one, i would have rathered the viper one but i got such a deal i couldnt pass it up. i believe that you can just pull the tail shaft off and swap the 6th gear to the .50 version(wich is what i plan on doing if its possible.

I have the ford spec. what are the benifets of the 6 speed if the 6th gear is same as 5th gear on the t5?

I think even if the 6th gear ran the same RPM as a 5 speed, it would still be better if you have 4.10 gears, so you could be in just the right gear when you're in between gears. Sometimes when i'm driving in low speed limit areas, i'm stuck between running 2500RPM to do the limit or 1500RPM in a higher gear...kinda sucks, but if i had another gear to split everything up it seems like it would help that a bit.
