What intake are you running and why? I currently have a Performer, but I have a chance to get a Performer RPM. Just wondering if it would be a worthwhile investment when I get heads and a FTI cam. My car is driven daily one mile to work with 1 stoplight, so I'm not too worried about driveability.

I'm running the edelbrock performer. Why? It was a gift from my wife for christmas, but I would still choose it anyway. I think the performer is the way to go IF the car is heavy and will not be shifted above ~6000rpms. If you will be shifting it higher than that and have it geared accordingly, then the rpm is the way to go. Basically it boils down to if you want a warmed over street combo, or a hot street/strip setup. I think most of us here want a warmed over street combo. The lack of low end torque isn't fun. My dad's car is faster than mine at the track, but behind the driver's seat mine feels like it would kill my dad's, but his is a hot street/strip combo. If you ever rode back to back in two such cars, you'd fell what I mean. Best bet is to decide which is right for you, and then call Ed and see what he says. You have to concider the rpm range of the combo, rear gearing, weight, etc. Would I pick up with an RPM? Maybe I'd pick up some MPH, but my et and street manners would be compromised I think.

I won't be an "official" FTI H/C/I person for about a week until everything goes on, put I have ordered my parts from Ed. I will be running a GT-40 intake with the lower ported my Tom Moss. Ed seemed to think this would work OK, so we'll see how it does.

i'm saticfied with the Trick Flow packege that i have. I have the Track heat trick flow intake manifold.Trick flow stage 2 cam shaft and Trick flow twisted wedge cylender heads ported stage 2 by fox lake. i'm running low 13's on AODE transmision with a converter only. the only problem is that my intake manifold doesn't give you a low RPM torque (wich i don't need it in my car) but they offer another intake with a low RPM torque.check it out.

I'm running the rpm cause it was on the car before I went with the FTI cam.

Ed said that the regular upper would be more suited to my car and the rpm upper would work better for a lightweight fox coupe as they could afford to give up a little low end torque.

You could search for Paul's dyno pull and mine and compare the two as I think they are still around or I can put it back up if its needed.

I am quite pleased with my torque curve at this time but who knows, someday I might try the longer runner upper.

I'd appreciate it if you could post your dynographs. Or you can e-mail them to me at chad.dean@madison.ppdi.com

The Performer and RPM share the same lower intake don't they?

Im one of the few odd ones that run a holley intake. Now If you want to look at some graphs just go to my website. But thats for a 331 instead of a 302...

Just spoke with an AFR tech guy. He said they recommend going with a Performer for a 302 with street implications and AFR-165 heads. He even said they suggest people running a Performer on a street driven 331 with AFR-165 heads. The guy must have said the phrase "torque curve" in every single sentence. He suggested only using the Performer RPM with a stroker combo and AFR-185 heads.

Funny you ask this now. I heard from Ed Curtis today about my combo and he suggested an Edelbrock Performer for me...he did NOT mention the RPM, just the regular Performer.

I was just planning on running my Cobra or getting it ported. But I'll probably go with the Edel later in the year when I get some more cash flow.

Final5.0, thanks for the graph. You're making more torque then I am on the lower part of your graph and you have an RPM intake, thats interesting.

A couple of things that I think helped the low end tq #'s were

1 Long Tube Headers

2 I was using my stock tb & maf at that time and I had tweeced my tune pretty close with a focus on the low end. I could idle as low as about 750 rpm with no bucking, surging, etc and the low end power picked up a good bit also.

Good luck with your combo and press Ed C to reveal a few of his go fast facts cause IMHO, the man knows his stuff.
