Question for the pros

Ok, I want a 2005 Mustang GT. Either Torch Red or Black exterior and for the interior I want the red and charcoal interior upgrade package with the My Color. I want the 5 speed automatic trans. Unfortunatly I'm not getting this until I can drive in December 2007 or around there; how much do you think it will cost then?

Also, Do you think I should get a moon roof? I hear they leak, is that true?

So you're only like 14 now and you're looking at a car that's gonna cost $30,000+? haha - your insurance will cost you just as much as the car.
honestly, get yourself a Ford focus or something - you should not be driving a Mustang GT at the age of 16. Aside from the fact that insurance will cost you an arm and a leg, it's just not safe for you - you should not be driving this car without at least a couple of years of driving experience. It's too much power and responsibility for a 16 year old. When I was 16, I wanted a GT more than anything. My dad said I wasn't ready and to prove the point he took me out for a testdrive in one. And he was right - no way in hell I was ready for that car. I got a jetta, built up a driving record and now at the age of 26 I finally have a GT (and a jetta to drive in the winter). A 16 year old behind the wheel of a GT is a danger to himself as well as other drivers on the road.

I agree with the above response. When I was 18 I got my 69 Sportsroof and it caused me to drive like a nut, you should really wait till your older and can afford it a bit more.

?? thats not true, if you feel you can handle the car then sure, you can. you guys have no idea this kids situation, im basically in the same shoes as him, but i dont know either. Im 17 and i got a 05 GT that i payed for with my own money, but ill tell you right now im a better driver than 3/4 the people on the road.
am i cocky? maybe, but do i know how to drive...yes. my father was a highway patrol cop for 25 years and hes taught me everything there possibly is to know about driving from the physics of it, to all the little tricks and crap that you shouldnt do even though it looks cool. dont discourage a kid to buy a mustang, since whenever i see another mustang drive no matter what year it is, i rather be next to him or her than the person in the minivan cause i know they care about their car and wanna keep it in good condition, avoiding accidents and mess ups.
it is always easier to learn with the most difficult, that is how you become the best. plus, atleast hes not buying a camero =) j/k

first of all i'm already 16 i live in jersey and we can't get our license till we're 18, and the gas prices here are the lowest in the country. its like a $1.85 or something like that. And my Dad is going half with the car.....AND i'm a GIRL

Well, do what you want. I'd hate to know you totaled the car within a year of owning it due to your fault. I'll tell my kids to get something they can deal with as their first cars. Take it easy.

It doesn't matter if you're 14, 16 or 40 and it doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl - you have no driving experience, and that's what matters.

As for price, my guess (purely a guess) 3000 to 4000 more than this years models.

Your right sorry I shouldn't have been pissy. But I have been around cars all my life. I just don't like when people tell me how I can and can not drive. Its a mustang with a v8, I'm gonna be smart enough not to drive it like a jackass

J/k, I am only 20 and have already ordered a GT. I wouldn't recommend it as a first car, but if you are in a situation to get one and you feel that you can handle it then more power to you. I know for a fact that if I had a stang when I was 16 I probably would have wrecked it since I did some stupid stuff with my car. Even if you think you are the greatest driver in the world *cough*Mike06_10pm*cough* j/k, then you will still make a lot of mistakes on the road. They don't really teach you much in drivers ed so you gain experience from years of driving. Anyways, sorry for rambling, also like some others have said watch out for insurance it is terrible. You are a girl so that helps a little (even though it is wrong) but they will still rape you with it.

I say if you can afford it and think you can drive it safely go for it. My first car was a Z28 with T-Tops and I loved it and never had an accident and that was from when I was 16 to 17 then I got a 93 5.0 and drove it for 4 years and never had an accident. I've drag-raced legally all over the United States and it's been motorcycles with nitrous, 5.0 with nitrous and my 5.9 Dakota R/T. I think you should just be careful and never lose respect for the danger you control at your feet. Price wise I say it'll probably be around $35,000 by then for a new GT.

I let my 17 year old daughter drive my stang a couple of times, her little brother said she wouldn't go fast at all, she was too scared. I explained (stressed, lectured, instilled the fear of god) to her before she drove it how showboat'n, it could get out from under her really fast because it is really powerful (and if there was a scratch on it she was toast). It's amazing the respect this car commands even from the inexperienced youth who think they are invincible.
With your attitude you probably wouldn't get much driving experience from a Ford Focus anyway, and you don't sound like you will settle for anything less than what you have your eye set on.
Keep your dream alive 05mustangbabie, be careful when it gets here, and for those under twenty five, don't "Drive it like you stole it!" save that for the experienced drivers. (OK, maybe twenty), FYI -"slaychic" I've heard this is a girly car anyway.

05 mustangbabie - go with Torch red ....cool color. I've got my second baby coming next week; Performance White GT, 5spd manual, w/red interior upgrade and all the options-puttin red stripes on like the boy racer. (can't decide on wheels? 18 maybe)

My WIndveil Blue GT auto trans, w/20" american racing chrome is my work car, looks sophisticated....and it's the shiniest thing I've ever seen. Love to drive it to the coutnry club (my bosses) and park it next to the beamers, puts em' to shame as far as looks and speed go, and i still have money left over to by another one! A real bargain if you ask me.

But I miss the stick, even if the auto trans is FUN to drive. My 85 GT didn't get too much abuse from me, but I did break a few teeth off the gears.
It's only metal it can be repaired.

i wish my father would have dropped $15000 (half) on a new car for me when I was legal to drive...instead of having to work for it and actually earn it.

Oh wait, no, I dont wish that. Learned more from driving my 88 escort station wagon that I bought myself, and then worked my arse off to get where I am today.

In all honesty I know a lot of people in their 20's and 30's that shouldn't be driving a car with 50hp much less a 300hp Mustang GT. Age and experience help, but responsibility is a bigger factor. A lot of those "older wiser" people are out street racing on the weekends. Not that I am immune, I street raced in my early 20s til I almost hit a bread delivery truck, that turned in front of me and the guy I was racing, head on at 100+. I got lucky and decided if I raced again I would keep it on the track.

In answer to your question mustangbabie I expect by the time you can drive the price may go up by $1000-2000 it's only two years and the price won't change drastically unless something crazy happens. The car is incredibly popular right now so who knows. To keep the cost at a minimum go with a deluxe and don't get the shaker 1000. The cloth interior cars are going to be pretty rare in the future. I wanted one, but the only way to get it was to order one (and we all know about the long wait). Good luck on your future purchase, and don't street race.

To address your questions:
-- To my knowledge, there is NO optional moonroof (doubt there ever will be). Instead, think "convertible."
-- MSRP will probably go up a bit. But by 07 (08 model year) you might be able to get a good deal on a leftover 07. And you should be able to get a good deal on a 3-year old used 05.
-- I know you want the GT, but don't overlook the 6-cylinder. It's got good power. Fuel economy is better than the V8. Insurance is less. And it's a LOT less expensive to buy. In late 07, you will probably be able to buy a new
6-cylinder Mustang for the same as a used 05 GT. Test drive the 6cyl and you'll see.

If I were you I would wait for the Shelby Cobra GT500. You would have between now and '07 to pull together the necessary scratch and also to talk pops into increasing his half. Additionally, you would have fun tossing around 450 plus supercharged horsepower.
