I just started porting my iron GT40's. So far all I did was an exhuast port. I have some pics of the finished port that I'll post later ( I need my memory stick reader). It turned out pretty well. The stock port is really bad around the bowl with the cast flashing and the valve guide. I originally intended on cleaning up the flashing but I ended up doing that and more. I smoothed out the guide and the bump in the roof near the exit and ended up polishing the whole thing. In the end I opened the whole port up alittle too.

I just want to make sure I didn't go too far with it before I move on so I was hoping to see if any of you guys would have any pictures that show some porting work you've done or had done. Also, I looked at the intake port and it doesn't look like it needs anything more than to clean the casting and shape the bowls alittle. What do you guys think? I was thinking of having an exhuast and intake port flowed before continuing. Think that would be at all necessary, or just wait untill I'm done to get them flowed before I get a cam designed?

I ported several sets of E7's. Things may not be the same with your GT40's but on the E7's you raise the roof of the e port for a more straight shot.

The main prob I got with porting some iron heads is that by the time you put the money in ........................

carbide burrs
sanding rolls
die grinder or electric whatchmacallit
other misc porting supplies
fresh springs
valve job
Time to port both heads

Well, IMHO its too much money and time to end up still with an old iron Ford oem head.

I did have fun porting those heads if the truth be told however. For me the experience was worth it. But for me, not any more thank you.

Yeah I have fun doing it so that is worth it alone. I'll get by without carbide bits. The SA delux kit comes with stones and the cartridge rolls seem to last. I've done one intake and one exhuast so far without wearing a single cartridge. I was able to get the grinder + handpiece for $90 and the porting kit from summit for $38 or so, so it's not too much when you consider a port job by someone else. I'll post pics of my port job before I get the valve job done.

I see your exhuast ports are opened up alot near the exit. I didn't go as far as those. I might try rasing the roof alittle more though. I am weary of grinding the valve guide down that far, however.
