Question on 99-up calipers

Anyone know if 15" Prostars will clear these calipers??

I work at a PBR Brake Manufacturer. I make Mustang Brakes calipers all day every day. We are a tier one supplier to Ford. All the calipers we make are aluminum. They are melted, poured in dies, milled with a CNC machine & assembled. When they arrive at Ford facility from our plant they merely place them on the rotor & connect the brake line.
We discard thousands on a daily basis. I can buy all I want at a deal.
We also make all calipers for the Cobra, Corvette, Cadillac, all Chevy SUV's, some Toyotas and some general GMC vehicles...like the Aztek, Hummer and so on...

What is the reason they are discarded? What kind of pricing can you get on them?

I read in a mag somewere that the 99+gt pbr twins pistons are bigger than the earlier cobra twins, not by much but bigger is bigger, Also A bud a few months ago upgraded his 00GT to a baer kit and his new calipers were preaty close to the stock one, the rotor was bigger and cross drilled and slotted, as well as coming with ss braded line. We did this at about the time 5.0 or MM&FF did the brake pad test and from looking at the two pbr calipers one diff. would be the hawks pads with the baer kit. Using good pads seems to be one of keys to get the 99+ calipers to realy show how good they are.

94-98 cobras had 38mm twin piston calipers, and the 99+ used 40mm twin pistons. I believe those figures are accurate. 99+ gt/v6 had 44mm twin piston calipers. the reason the cobras can get away with the smaller pistons is because they have more leverage from the larger rotors

Man your a day too late... I bought a set yesterday at a junk yard. MANY 94-98 owners do this swap as we get twin piston calipers and lose 16lbs in the process. Depending on good of a deal you can offer them at, i may buy another set since they are "new" instead of unknown junk yard stuff.

I am in the process of adapting the front C5 brakes to my 95 GT. When everything is combined together, the caliper, the brackets, and the rotor; the C5 brakes are 1.5lbs lighter each side then the stock GT setup. Also the stock GT caliper weighs 9lbs. each, not the 15-20 I've read about. So unless the 99+ calipers only weigh 1 lb. you are not going to lose 16 lbs. in this swap.

Steve, you are right. I weighed them today, the PBR's fully dressed with the bracket and pads weighed in at 10lbs, the stock with pads and such weighed in at 13lbs, so the total loss is only 5-6lbs. I was a little disappointed, but they look good and should help me stop better none-the-less.

Can you get the Baer PBR's? I think Roush has Cobra style PBR's too.

It would be cool to get the expensive brand PBR's cheap.

HEY STEVE!!!-nice seeing you back on here!

Paul, They DID help me, but I guess I was expecting WAY Better stopping, because after we put them on my car, I was like "not too bad".. I was really excited.

None-the-less, they cost me $100 for both fronts, and I even got the rotors with it. Car they came from had 5k miles on them. My stock rotors were 10 years old and pads had about 10k miles.

All in all, not a bad mod if you get a good price. I still like those cobra 13" ones tho.

Sorry to bring old thread

I have realy bad brakes for some strange reason so I decide to go on junk yard and get some 99+ GT/V6 front brakes
I wanna know what I have to get from junk yard
AND
What I have to do that swap

I know I need calipers,rotors and what else ?????????

brackets and banjo bolts. You can upgrade to SS lines too if you want, I was being cheap and just used the stockers. You will have to grind down the caliper a little where the brake line attaches if you use the stockers, and a very small amount will need to be removed from the spindle, but we're talking less than 1/16".

Werd!
A Dremmel with a medium grinding wheel is enough to do the trick. I even talked to a couple of guys that said they didnt even have to grind at all!

On my Cobra brake kit it's a 99+ and it was direct fit on everything.

I have my stock calipers, brakets, hoses with carbon metallic pads (80% left) and zinc plated cd/slotted rotors in my garage. You can have them for $200 + the actual shipping charge.

(I'll be @ Mason Dixon racing on the 23rd if that's close for you to p/u.)

What brackets and banjo bolts

Do you have any pics how that grind job looks like

Caliper brackets from the 99-up car, and the banjo bolts from the 99-up stock brake lines. My salvage yard just cut the lines right off the car and left the banjo bolt connected to it and the caliper. Get yourself some new copper washers though too for the banjo bolts.
