I am going to order a new short block. I would like to get the 28 oz internal balance but not sure if my harmonic balancer and flywheel are set up for the 280z. does it matter? or would i have to buy new flywheel and balancer if i want a 28oz internal balance. I think i have a 50 oz balance on my current shortblock

The crank, balancer and flywheel have to match.
If they don't, it will be an unbalanced mess and likely self destruct.

They make new pistons every day, so why worry?

If what you have now is completely stock you have 50 oz imbalance balancer and flexplate. If you buy a 28 oz imbalance motor you will need new balancer and flexplate. as others have said, this is critical and these components NEED to match.
