Hello all,

My girlfriend has a '99 Cobra and is wanting that awesome aftermarket sound for her car but she can't afford a nice catback system.

I found a local person who is selling his exhaust off a '99 GT that had Flowmaster 40 series mufflers installed in the stock piping. I was wondering if these mufflers would fit on the Cobra (proper offsets and piping diameter) and how it would sound. He is wanting $100 for the mufflers and they are 3 months old.

If this is a good buy and they will work, I was going to buy them for her and have them installed at a local shop for $45.

Please let me know and thanks in advance,

Gabe

I'd have to guess, no. Because of the IRS, the whole cat-back is different.

no, the inlet/outlet offsets are completely different because of the IRS.

If you search on the net, you can probably find originals (40's) for 60 bucks or so. I bet if you try to buy them locally their going to have delta 40's, for 90 bucks. But you cant get the originals in a catback form anyways. I would get the originals, if I could do it over again, but mine are dumped now so it wouldn't matter.

Do not think they will work. you need side in and out same side on the mufflers. I have some Flowmasters delta 40's 2 chambers off my 01 cobra . Anywhere near Nashville or Atlanta? A real cheap way to go with nearly the same sound is el chepo glass packs which I am currently running. They feel like 30 HP vs the stock system and less drone than the FM 40's.

I could be wrong, but from what I have seen, they only offer delta 40's (2 chamber) or force 2 which is a 3 chamber. They might have the super forties in a catback, but not to sure about that. I have never seen originals in a catback kit. The piping definately looks better than stock with a catback vs. just mufflers, and should flow a little better. than again, throw an offroad h on there with the stock mufflers, and it should sound good.

I know money was the issue, but I highly recommend staying away from Flows and going to Magnaflow. There are shops that will weld in a pair of these for you for less than $200 total. You'll get a good sound and better flow increasing HP.

I say have patience, save money, do it right and buy a catback . You can buy a Catback for $300 or less if you shop around.
