On monday I was cruising around the lakes < 30mph and started to smell gas, by the time I got home the smell was pretty strong. I had about a 1/4 tank of gas when I get home. I checked at the rear of the car and under the hood the smell was under the hood. I didn't see any obvious indications of where the smell was coming from. On monday evening I checked for previous posts on this topic and last night finally checked the following:
1) The charcoal canister is present and there is manifold vacuum before the soleniod, and there is manifold vacuum present at the canister once the engine warms up and the throttle is increased. I also pulled a vacuum (using a brake bleeding tool) on the fuel tank line at the canister and got a strong gas smell. Based on this I think the CC system is working.
2) I checked the fuel regulator by removing the vacuum line to it and didn't see any leaking and I didn't smell any gas.
3) I checked the fuel injectors and didn't see any evidence of leaks, but I couldn't see the two under the intake at the back.
During this whole time I didn't smell any gas so I went for a drive and filled the car with gas. When I got home I let the car idle for 15 minutes and still no gas smell.
Any ideas on what I should do next if anything. I don't want to be going on a road trip and have this gas smell or worse gas leaking on the engine.

check the F/P regulator by pulling off the vacuum line, if gas is in that line it may be the source of your odor.

Did you happen to visually inspect the charcoal cannister purge line? It cracks at the CC and vulcanizes under the upper intake - mine has splices on both ends. Note that this hose has some goofy sizing (one hose will change ID's) so if you get creative with splicing, have an array of hoses on hand.

An intermittant gas smell through the vents can indeed be the charcoal cannister lines in my experience. Not sure if your smell is generic or through the vents.

Dont overlook something like a leaking tank grommet (only leaks when the tank is filled up over 1/2 or so). If you are having heat like we are (90*F), the fuel will likely evaporate before reaching the ground to leave a drip.

Good luck.
Good luck.

I'm assuming that the hoses from the intake to CC are ok since I have a steady engine vacuum at the end of the hose that connects to the CC. I also verified that there is no gas in the vacuum hose for the fuel pressure regulator. Since I didn't get the gas smell last night, anyone know what would cause it to be intermittant?

When I was cruising it was about 76 degrees and I had the top down
