I been reading alot of post, and seen where some of you guys/girls are making 380 to 425 hp and getting 20 miles to the gallon. I am getting only about 12 mpg my setup is 302 b303, gt40p heads, gt40 intake, 70mm tb, 19lb injecters, fms headers into h -pipe, underdrive pullys, cold air, ac delete, smog delete and 373 gear, is there something I've done wrong? or need to change!

Thanks for any info.

Drive like a grandma.

Seriously.

Hell, i get 27MPG on the highway with my stock '03 GT if i drive like a grandma, but if i start rolling through the gears spirted a bit, it drops down to 12-15MPG.

Make sure your car is tuned - fresh plugs, air filter and oil clean, sensors clean.

20mpg is probably pure highway for those cars, but in town isn't going to be near as good:)

I have got 24mpg in my 340 (est. hp) car because I drove easily and at an okay rpm of 2,000-2,200...

i got 12 on my bone stock engine when i had it :D But thats cause how i drove it! I'll never drive it like a grandma :rlaugh: I'll sacrifice the extra 8 miles per gallon! I didn't buy all the hp to drive it like a honda right? :nice:

I get about 18mpg with mixed city/highway driving and 25 on the highway! All the time! I do drive like a litttle old lady though...and i dont care. there is no reason for me to drive like a fool on the streets, attract unwanted attention, and burn through excessive amounts of gas. It certainly doesnt get me anywhere any faster. Clean components, fuel filter, wires, plus, cap, rotor. Most of all its a light foot. I have a vac gauge and watch it like a hawk. I have 3.73's and cruise at 75-80 on the highway at 2500-2650 rpm....all the time.

I got 27 with the coupe but it was geared 2:73 and driving like a grandma, maybe had 200 something HP too...

My current one, I don't know... never checked, I have a 4 banger for MPG - the stang is for MPH not MPG

wow

75-80 I'm taching 3000 :jaw:

No you're not. Unless you have changed from the stock 26" tire, there is no way you are tacking 3g's at 75-80. Are you running a stock tach? My RPM is verified from a 5" autometer and a tweecer. 3000rpm is 90mph with 3.73's.

Ummm.......yeah. That definitely matters zero when it comes to figuring out gas mileage. Next time you fill up just count how many gallons you put in while noticing how many miles you've driven. :D

Do the math. :nice:

LOL...very true. My 2.3N/A Stang gets about 21/22 with mixed hard running and highway and 25-29 with all highway. It actually seems to get better mileage at 80 than at 65-70. Don't really understand that other than peak torque curve I guess.

I suspect when I get my 5.0 swap done in the other 4-banger it will be decent with a 2.73 gear and .79 OD from the 4-banger T-5.

Just figured it up. With the 2.73 gear and .79 OD it will be like having a .58 OD on 3.73's. Not sure if that will be good or bad...
