Question on rims/tires for 03 GT

I'm looking to get a set of the Boyd Coddington Smoothie II's in the 18" size. Should I get the 18X8 5-114.3 25P or the 18X9 5-114.3 31P. I need to know because sometime in the future I also would like to change out the stock springs for the steeda sport springs and wanted to know whick size would be better for the drop and for this tire size - 275/35/18. I don't want fenderwell rubbing and such. Thanks in advance.

The 18 x 8's will fit a little better if you are concerned about the wheel and tire combo rubbing or sticking outside of the fender line. The front of the stang is FWD off set. The 275-35-18 fit best on a 18 x 9.5 wheel. On a 18 x 9 a 265-35-18 works best and on 18 x 8 a 245/255-35/40-18 works best. Good luck!!!

You can go 295 on the back w/a 9in rim.

Yes you can even fit a 315 if ya really force it...LOL..!!! What most people forget is that when you go for looks, you compromise the performance of the tire (unless yo select the proper wheel width with th eproper size tire)..for example, the 295 on a 9" wheel..the rim is too narrow for that size tire to perform correctly. The sidewalls become concaved and cannot optimally perform their intended functions of cornering stabilization and side load forces. You may get a lot of people saying "I got xyz tires this wide on them rims no problems!" but the truth is the tires are not able to perform to their optimal ability..and in some cases the too narrow rim for the tire can cause serious handling problems...FYI

I guess what I really want to know is which size rim 18 x 8 or 18 x 9 would be best for my car that wouldnt affect the performance of the brakes abs or what not. And what size tire, all 4 the same size, would be the best fit and everything including for future mods. I will be getting the springs at some point and I want everything to go as easy as possible. I know that all rims and tires are not the same, but my next question is about the offset of the rims. The Boyds I want to get are 18 x 8 and have a 25 offset and the 18 x 9 are a 31 offset. Which one is best to get in my situation and which tire therefore afterward. What I'm really going after is the look of the california roadster. I hope this all makes sense and hope people could shed more light on this for me. Thanks.

You just missed a set of take offs from the BC California Speedster.... I am looking at a set for my Centennial GT also, but next year... Gonna do the drop and add the 18s... According to the listing as well as the specs on the Roush Ford site - "These wheels are 18x9 in front and 18x10 in rear. The Tires are BF Goodrich G-Force KD. The front tires are 265/35/18 and the rears are 295/35/18."

i had 18x9 and 18x10 on my 00 gt that was dropped with steeda springs i had 265/35 on the front and 295/35 on the back and had no issues with rubbing, whichever size you go with you shouldnt have any issues

Thanks for the info. 18x9 and 18x10 is what i'll get. i'm extremely happy that i'll be able to put 18x10 in the rears. And those tire sizes sound great. Thanks again. One other thing. Where should i purchase the set of rims and tires?

I have looked. Of course you can get them at Boyd's site.... Some times you can catch them on e-bay, but usually they are not miss-matched like you are looking for.

This site seems like the have decent pricing, but you should verify the correct back spacing for the mustang. http://shop.sportruck.com/bcodd/cast/smoothieii.htm

For the backspacing I was gonna ask if 31 for the 18x9 was correct and if the 18x10 was 40. what do you think?
