I was wondering if anyone knows anyone who has made the mustang scoops real. I have a 2003 GT and I want to make the hood scoop and side air dams real and working. I want air to actually go throught them instead of producing drag. Does anyone know how hard it would be or if it is possible?
Thx
Mike

After thinking about it, I came up with an idea. This is just an idea though! You could just take a drill and drill out the holes on the honeycomb plastic that covers the opening on the hoodscoop. Then, you would have to cut your hood under the location of the hoodscoop to make it functional, maybe put some weatherstripping on it so the edges dont rust. Something like that may work. The only functional scoops I have seen for the 99+ is the Shaker Hoodscoop from Classic Desgin Concepts. I know that Banshee (sp?) Performance makes a functional ram air hood scoop for the fox body stangs that looks more like the stock hoodscoop on the 01+ GT. I dont know if they make one for a 99+ GT though, maybe you can look into that.
As for the sidescoops, you would have to cut into the quarter panel for that. I think Classic Design Concpets makes functional sidescoops as well. They look pretty awesome! Hope this helps, good luck with your project!

they are just for looks on the new edge style mustangs. the sn-95 ones have functional side scoops. you could get some Bullet side scoops, which are basically just a hump with no opening. it looks more stream line if you ask me, i like it better. if you want a fucntional hood scoop, i would look in to Classic Design Concepts about a Mach 1 hood scoop. they made them for ford. not much you can do about the stock hood other than what streetstang said, but all that will do is cool down the engine compartment and at the same time allow for water and other exterior stuff to trickle down on the top of the enigine. doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

i did the hood to my 2002 the first day i got it. a high speed cutting wheel for the hood(it is not metal so it wont rust) and a drill and razor blade. first remove the scoop and cut a square in the hood 1-1 1/2 inches inside the bolt holes. then carefully drill the inner holes out of the vent(careful not to drill the places where the vent is held in to the scoop and hood.) then clean it up w/ the razor. when you drill the vent the plastic melts and needs some cleaning from the back. also drill from the front to the rear will look cleaner.
i can drive hard for hours and open the hood and put my hand on the tb mildly warm. and as for dirt and water not much gets in, more goes in from the opening from the road underneath...
it was the first mod i did and its origional not many ppl have functioninf hood scoops + works great..
good luck...
have fun..

Yes, there are a few making functional Ram Air hood scoops that look like the factory 01 -- 04 scoop.

Kar Kraft was making this ( you can find them on Ebay sometimes)

What do you do about the rain, doesn't water get blown in to the engine compartment while your driving? I'd be worried about all the electronics under there.
