i am going to get a new car this week and i am still stuck. i now i want a 99+ gt or cobra. i will be racing this car(at the track, no streets for me) and i want to be between 300-400 rwhp(closer to 400 hopefully) would a gt be able to make this? this could be the deciding factor in this for me. thanks in advanced

I think your major deciding factor will be money, it all depends how much you're willing to dig into your checkbook. How much are you looking to spend on your base car, and then mods?

about 10k to maybe 15k for the car. then how ever much it takes. ive seen a video of a cobra racing a z06 and the cobra blew his bottom end cause it was stock. so i figure i would have to forge my bottom end. then i was thinking about a turbo or an eaton/kb supercharger.

I would get a Cobra, the only problem with that, is if its gona be a strip car, you will need to get a solid axel and toss the IRS to someone or someplace. The 4V will respond better to mods and OBVIOUSLY has more power. Plus a 2V is a great engine, but a Cobra....is a Cobra.

Want a bad ass race car? Get a 99 GT for as cheap as possible and build it up with a KB and all the goodies. You can have the rear end you want and everything. That's what I would do....if I was focused on mainly racing.

If you want the speed NOW and can afford a snake and the insurance and don't care about the IRS, then get an 03 Cobra. In the end, I suppose you will spend about the same $.

One other thing, the Cobra will be a much better investment as far as resale if you leave it near stock. If you buy a GT for cheap and start building it up, you will be pouring the money down the drain if you need to sell it.

I will never ever, ever again buy a standard Ford Product when there is an SVT version. SVT is just that. It is a special vehicle. Bulit better, closer tolerances, higher quality materials, and better engineered. (this applies to 2003 and later vehicles, there was a lot of shady deals going down in the previous 9 years of svt).
Coletti and his team are going in the right direction. There is no better choice than the SVT. Superior in all categories. Including IRS.

you think it would be smart for me to get a used 03 cobra for around 25k. i will be starting college in the fall. and only if i get a good monthly payment

Forget that cobra!! that insurance is going to be insane, buy a 02 GT insurance wont be that bad,
