I have a 1993 Thunderbird SC with a trashed AOD transmission. It needs a new planetary gearset, they gears are way out of spec and the trans is noisy, as well as a broken OD band. Sorry to post on a mustang forum, but nobody over at www.sccoa.com has been able to help me with this specific question.

I want to upgrade to the wide ratio gear set, but I've heard the 1-2 shiftpoint is moved up to near 6,000 rpm. Holy crap, thats a little too much. How can this be toned down a little? I read on Bauman Engineering's page that you can use a different (lower speed) governer assembly, then tailor the shift points using their valve body recalibration kit. Has anyone done this? Which governer did you go with, and what are your shift points now?

I am rebuilding the trans myself and am fairly familiar with AOD's. My trans already has the "A" servo and stamped steel drums.

Thanks a ton guys!

My last coupe had an AOD with The wide ratio kit.

I liked it. once my Aod on my 89 coupe goes under , thats i'm going to use the Wide ratio kit. it will go better with 3.55's on the rear.

as for the 6,000 RPM shift point ,thats if you punch it into WOT.

that kit is fine.

Good luck :flag:
