Questions on TB and MAF Tube install

I have a stock 1991 Mustang lx. I purchased a BBK 70mm TB and a 73mm C&L MAF tube calibrated to 19# injectors. When I put them on do I have to tune anything? I want to put them on but I do not know if I have to do anything else. I purchased a Edelbrock Performer 5.0 intake also that I will put on in a few weeks. I just can't wait to put on the TB and MAF. Let me know if I have to do anything else. Thanks

Since you are mass air, there is nothing to tune at this time. The computer is very accomodating to compensate for new goodies.

your going to have to spend some time and adjust your idle again. upon first start up the car wont even try to idle. at leasy mine didnt. you will have to set the tps and the idle screw

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't he reset the computer when he installs the new parts? I know it's not critical, but it might run better when he first starts it back up.

Also, would bolting a 70mm TB to the stock upper hurt performance, since the opening in the upper is something less than 65mm, would the turbulence cause a problem if it's not ported to match? Obviously he's not going to port it since he has a new intake waiting to be installed.

Just a thought. Congrats on the new parts purchase.

I think it would be a good idea to reset as well.....he might hear a wistle if its not ported to match.

Quick question ' how would he go about resetting his computer? i might be doing the same .

My friend said that putting on a new TB/MAF would hurt performance because the car would be reading the wrong airflow, so by what you said I am assuming the computer notices it and ajusts for it.

Changing out the TB will have little affect on the computer, so that won't cause any issues.
Changing the MAF can cause SERIOUS issues if the right MAF is not selected.
The MAF must be appropriate for the injectors and computer that is being used.

Reset the Keep Alive Memory (KAM) in the computer by disconnecting the battery when you start to pull the old manifold. It should take about 15min. for the KAM to clear out, so by the time you are done swapping intakes, the KAM will be clean.

Clearing the KAM will reset all of the 'learned' corrections that the ecu has developed.
The computer will have to learn new corrections with the new parts being installed.
That should be done within 50 miles, if you get a good mix of highway and city driving in.

I don't think the larger TB would cause any issues, but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong

Best pratice is to disconnect the battery anytime you change a sensor. However, the computer will figure it out over a period of run/stop cycles if you are forgetful or lazy. The worse case is the engine runs a little rough until it figures out something's different and makes adjustments to the parameters stored in KAM.
