I was wondering about how much horse power you can make before the block would fail? I know 600hp is about max for the 302 before is cracks the block, so how about the 351W? Thanks, Adam
I have heard of a few guys in the 700+ range, but I would rather buy a better block for that area, they all know they are on borrowed time. I would personally say that with only a 0.030" bore in the neighborhood of 650-700 MAX, for a short while, definitely a short while.
With 69' being the strongest. A good machine/balance job/ and tune up are the most critical things to how long a engine will last. I have a 69' block that is hardblocked up to the water pump, a steel girdle, and a good array of parts, it makes almost 600 at the crank n/a and I would not be scared to put a 150hp shot of nitrous on it.
mike.
A stock 302 block won't take 600.Might hold up with one pass. Max is about 450 and your running on borrowed time. 600 is where I'd limit a windsor block if not too much is taken from the cylinder walls.
i have a 69 block and i just got it dynoed it made 608hp and 580 ft torque. it is studded and girdled. plus i will be putting a 250 shot through her. hope it stays together
Cool guys. I heard over at turbostang about the 600 crack hp thing. I was thinking in the 500-550hp range with a 94 roller block. I can get a used 351w with 63k miles on it for $550.00 from a local wreaking yard. Thanks for the info, Adam
Using a .30 69' Block, with all the proper machining done and with the use of a good quality main Stud Girdle, 700HP at the flywheel is pretty much the maximum I'd think.
