A9L is definitely from a five speed. Not sure about the A9P, but I know someone else will be along shortly to confirm that. Been too long that I've been without a Fox, so I've forgotten quite a bit.

a9l can only be used in 5 speed cars. the a9p came in automatics but can be used in either 5 speed or auto. they're both as good as the other and respond well to mods. i actually like the a9p better in a five speed. i put an a9p in my 5 speed coupe and it ran like a CHAMP. also, i just did a mass air conversion to my current car while i'm rebuilding the motor on the stand and i'm using another a9p.

Both are correct above. EDIT: Cenok posted while I ate. Good info from him also
The P tosses in some extra timing (to accomodate the converter/box) and the 5 speed guys seem to like it ok.

Jason (Vristang) has recently made an interesting comment about the low RPM timing advance with the P (it's a lot under certain off-idle conditions - again, because of expected converter stall. But for a 5 spd, the driver would not realistically notice the difference).

Go with whichever puter you can find Roland.

Good luck.

I bet you'd be hard pressed to tell us which was which if we didnt tell you what was in your car.
Yes, just use whichever you can. Many have run both puters in the same car.
