Quick EFI firing order question?

OK, ive checked out fordfuelinjection.com and its kinda vague in my opinion on this subject. I want to know what you all have done about firing order issues. i want to keep the old school cam, and not change to an HO cam, so what is the best route to go so my idle isnt crap if i go to efi? Is there anyway to not have to get a custom chip. ive heard that swapping injectors is the WRONG way to do this. What did all of you do besides changing to a HO cam?
Oh yeah, One more thing, what kind of cam gear do i need to have installed onto the dizzy in order to use my hydralic flat tappet old school cam? and is this something i can do, or is it something a shop needs to do?
 
The easiest thing to do is to is rewire the fuel injector harness so it fires in the injectors in the old firing order. This is not hard to do and a lot of people have done it this way. I think there are only 2 or 3 wires that need to be changed. The only other way is to get a chip or some type of tunner for it like a tweecer. As far as the distributor goes, you'll need an iron gear and not the steel gear that comes on the stock EFI distributor. These are not that hard to change. They have a roll pin holding them on. Knock this pin out and the gear will come off. It might take some presuading to get it to come off. Just make sure the new iron gear has the same diameter as the EFI distributor shaft. The old 289/302 have a shaft diameter of .467" and the new 5.0/5.8 EFI distributors have a shaft size of .531".

This is a quote directly from fordfuelinjection.com that contradicts what some of you guys are saying.
There are 2 ways to “correctly” fix a computers mismatched firing order:
The best option is to change to a HO camshaft to match the computer.
Or you can reprogram the computer to match the cam firing order.

Other people with mismatched computers swap the injector pins at the computer plug. This causes more problems than it’s worth because of the computers Adaptive Fuel Strategy.
So i went on to read more about this in the adaptive fuel strategies and basically according to them, its a bad idea. but im assuming its working good for you! Thats why i posted on here, because i want to know what really works. :D Maybe i am reading something wrong, but have any of you actually done the injector swap and had it run well for an extended amount of time?
 
Yep! It worked fine, but Ive got to admit I didnt run it for an extended period before going the HO route, simply due to my cam needs. The adaptive strategy will cetainly make changes and yes it may not be 100% perfect due to injectors being swapped from one cyl bank to the other, but on a daily driver I think it should be just fine, the needs of each cylinder shouldnt differ too much but if youre looking for a perfect tune you might want to look elsewhere. If youre converting a rather stock motor you could also use EEC from a NON ho motor, theyre batch fire systems instead of sequential fire and dont care what cam is in the engine. Theres a chart on his site that tells you what wires to swap in the 60 pin If you chosse to use the sequential setup. I have it printed in a file and could look it up for you if youd like
