quick exhuast question

I just removed an h-pipe from an 88 gt and I was wondering what the valve is that is a part of the h-pipe. It looks like it attaches to the egr valve trhough a small piece of hose. What is this valve called. when I removed it I think it got damaged. If I am not clear enough let me know and I will try to take pictures.
Thanks

If you have to pass an emissions test - think twice before removing it. The air pump puts excess oxygen into the cats so they can catalyze further chemical reactions cleaning up the exhaust. Leaving the cats on and removing the smog pump can cause the cats to clog sooner than they otherwise would. The air pump puts air to the back of the heads (exhaust ports) when the engine is cold so that the cold air from the pump doesn't delay cat light-off (high temp needed for cats to start working). Once the car is warm enough, the air from the pump is diverted directly to the cats.

leave the smog pump on and get a shorter belt and bypass it for now, but leave it on or keep it handy cuz ya never know if you are going to need it. I used to live in WA when I put long tubes on but moved to SoCal and now I need it... at least for the smog test!

Also, they tend to freeze up if not turning regularly, so if you leave the belt off for an extended period of time, don't be surprised if the pump doesn't want to turn when you put the belt back on. Use it or lose it I guess.

thanks for the help. I took it off what is now going to be my racing car and going to put it on my other 5.0, I was just wondering if I needed the part because it got damaged in the process of removal. My daily driver 5.0 has one that I can use so I am in the clear
Thanks
