ok what would be a better head to start off with i will get a nice set later on but i want this motor together now lol ...carbed 351w..( :( no 408 yet ) would a older 351 head thats worked over be better or would a e7 head off of our cars thats worked over be better i thought someone said the e7's were a better design just want to make sure..thanks

Actually, the 69/70 351w blocks have a little less deck height. (About .080", I think.) So, the compression with any head will be higher with that block. (What are the casting numbers?) The 69/70 heads have smaller combustion chambers than the 72-up heads. That's why they used to have a great reputation with Ford guys. If you are able to do it, I'd at least swap on some GT40's or GT40p's on that block. Port them too, if you have the time. ALL of the OE Windsor heads were pretty crappy, as far as the ports are concerned. GT40's changed that, a little. (I think E7's are bad on a 302, let alone a 351.) Ported GT40's would be the minimum for a strong 351, IMO.

ok my dads machine shop is able to port and polish and everything so i thought i could take a kinda crappy head and make it worth something for now...i will try to get the numbers the blocks not at my house its about a hour and a half away at the shop..not to sure when i will be back down there but i will look into it
