Do I just pound the new seal in flush with the front of the cover, or does it need to be pounded down and seated at the very back of the opening? The old one had the outer ring/tab on the front of it so it was pounded down flush with the opening and the extra ring/tab on the seal was flush with the opening. The new seal doesnt have this extra tab/ring on the outside so Do I just seat it flush with the front of the cover or do I pound it down so the rear of the seal is flush with the back of the timing cover?

you lightly knock it in with a rubber mallet till it is fully seated around the outside.
