i have a 99 cobra and need to put new brake pads on it. want to get it done tonite. i have never done a cobra before and i was wondering if it is the same as a foxbody? Do you have to don anythying different to get the piston to move back? or can you just c-clamp it back in? Help would be great i want to get rid of the noisey brakes on in.

Fronts are pretty straight forward. There is a retaining rod with an e-clip holding it. Remove the e-clip and the caliper will come off. Pistons can be pushed back. Don't lose the anti-rattle clips at the ends of each pad.

Rears are a little more difficult. Calipers come off the same but you may have to undo the emergency cable and that's a pain getting it back on. The pistons have to be screwed in - Napa has a Ford specific tool for this. It takes some effort to screw them in. Also, you will notice the two machined grooves where the tool fits. The rear pads also have little raised buttons that have to fit into those grooves, too. If they don't go into those grooves then your pads will overheat because they are too tight. I did it and fried a rotor in the process.

Again, fronts are easy - rears can be a pain. Hope this helps you.

You might do a search for other "how to's" for brakes.
