QUICK, how much oil in our engines????

5.

You can run between 4 and 5 and probably not hurt anything.

Running 4 quarts actually frees up a few horsepower and is an old track trick, but I'd rather not risk damage by losing oil and going below 4 so I always run 5.

17 quarts.

:jester: Just messing with ya. That guy must apparently be retarded. Reminds me of the time I went to buy oil for my motorcycle for the first time. The guy tried to convince me it took 5 quarts. It's a 250cc (0.25L) motor. What the crap dude?! What an idiot.

Oh yea, the mustang takes 5.

When I was a teenager, a friend of mine had a Buick Century. He tried changing the oil for the first time.

Everything went well, until he went to fill her back up. He put in five quarts of oil, and then panicked because "it wasn't full". He went to the auto store and bought another five quarts and put them in...it still wasn't "full", so he bought another five.

I'm not sure how much oil he put in, but eventually he filled the entire crank case, to the point where it was filled to the very top of the filler neck.

:OT: had a buddy drain his oil on his civic and when he went to refill the oil it only took a quart and a half. He figured it had a small motor and didn't give it another thought till he drove the car about a half mile and the car was shifting really really hard. this friggin moron drained the tranny dry. he will never let it down

oh and i do the same as grn92lx

Jeeeezus!!!!

The startup noise after an oil change makes me feel queasy.
It probably is less than a second but it sounds like an eternity

Anybody else experience this?

Also I usually idle it until the fans come on, what do you guys usually do after an oil change?

I let it idle for about 30 seconds, let it sit and check the level. I check the level for real the next morning.

Prefilling the oil filter helps with the initial start-up (period of time that the guage makes you queasy).

Another oil change mishap: Last year my real close friend, who previously had NO interest in cars, bought an 05 WRX STI.

Well, he decided he wanted to learn how to work on cars, and he wanted to make his fast (it is now, Stage II UTEC plus nitrous and bolt-ons).

So I was showing him how to change the oil on his brand new STI (like 2500 miles on it). Being that it was his first time, when he drained the oil he made a real mess in the driveway. He said he didn't want to have to finish the job in a puddle of oil, and that he was going to lower the car and move it.

I said you can't do that...why, he asked. I totally blanked...it was just something I'd never think of doing. It was so absurd to me that I couldn't figure out why right away. I watched stupidly as he lowered the car. He got in, and put the key in the ignition, and fired it up...

That's when it hit me. TURN IT OFF! TURN IT THE **** OFF -NOW-! His face was white as a ghost as he shut the car off.

Amazingly, nothing was hurt.

Haha...Here's an oil story:

When I totalled my '94 v6 mustang I was looking at cars and my dad didn't want to go see this car cuz' he already hated eclipses but he came with me anyway to see it. It was red and in decent shape then I started it up and it took a while to start... It finally started [the guy said because it was cold out...I was wearing a tshirt.] After starting it we started to hear some odd grinding noises.. My dad pops the hood and looks around and doesn't notice anything.. he tells me to kill it and come out..
I get outta the car and I'm lookin at it with him and then I go to check the oil... The dipstick is bone dry.. So dry that I couldn't even get a drop on my finger..

So my dad called me to the side and we were saying how much of an idiot the guy was and **** because he was being a complete *******.. He wanted 4500 for the 95 eclipse with 101,000 on it. Not even the GRX-R or whatever they are..

So my dad let me take it for a few trips around the block while he was talking to the guy about the car.. I beat the piss outta it, dropped the auto trans into first while I was doing about 50mph, and was sliding with the ebrake.. I had a lil' fun.. On the way back I drove it through a huge puddle and parked the car.. I gave the guy back the keys, told him I was not interested, and went home.

On the drive home he called me and said that he would drop the price $2000 if I was still willing to buy the car.

I have a couple of problems, questions about oil. I have a 94 GT Vert if it matters...

This all started when I went to get my oil changed at valveline, they guy changed my oil like 5 times becuase he said everytime he check it, it was above the full mark on my dip stick. He kept on asking me if it was OEM and I said yes, as far as I know it is (the car was given to me by a cousin who has past). He said he's putt in 5 qrts and it was way to hi...anyway some other guy came and he did it and everything was ok.

It seems that I have a little oil leek, and I have no idea where its coming from, I need to get that fixed, but everytime I go to check my oil it seems fine. Also my low oil light turns on randomly. I'll go to check it and it'll be fine... I'll restart the car and its gone; kinda like my low coolant level, its def fine and it says its low.. Sometimes I do add a little oil just to be safe because I do have an oil leak....

I'm lost at what to do....
