columbus, oh
i have decided to buy myself a belated birthday present, and its between fords 3.73 gears and a steeda triax shifter. i can only get one, and installation is not a problem for either. my future plans include a blower (kennebell), thats why im going with the 3.73 (besides, this thing does alot of highway driving). Its one or the other guys. What do you think??

Yeah, the prices for each of these is close, but the labor is another thing entirely. Shifter is definately DIY (hell, my wife did her own on her 01 GT). Gears install is not for the novice and will set you back about $200.

well guys, i was going for the gears but then i started thinking... gas mileage. how bad will the 3.73 s effect the gas mileage? I drive an awful lot, and until we get the gas prices back down below 2.00 a gallon... gas mileage is definatly an issue. I didnt think about that when i first started thinking about it. Anyone know? Oh, my father in law builds cars...hes my mentor and can help me with the gear install... isnt much thats not cake for him. Thank god, he has gotten me outta some tight spots on some other installs... :D I want the gears but it looks like i may go with the triax... unless it wont make THAT big of a difference.

thanks for the input guys, anyone know how much of a difference in fuel economy the 3.73s would make? trust me, i would love to go with the gears (ford racing, of course :D ) and i wanna make sure it wont suck the gas TOO hard...

I have 4.30's in my daily driven 2000 GT. The main difference in MPG's is how hard you drive it to feel the difference in acceleration :)

:stupid: Exactly. The difference in MPG is not that big of a deal if you drive it softly. Problem is, who wants to baby it with some tall azz gears in it? Not me, that's for sure...I love to wind it up!!! :D
Gas prices do suck. Between our two GTs, my wife and I are spending $75 a month more for gas than we did a year ago. But what can we do? (Well, vote for one thing, but that's a whole other topic! :D )

no kidding? hmm, thats not bad at all. i find i get the best mpg when i keep it below 2000 rpms. if i have that much leeway i dont think it would be a problem. hmm... the gears are sounding better again...
