Quick question about longtubes...

Are there any longtubes out in the market for 99-04 mustangs that DONT require dropping the K-member??? :SNSign:

not that i know of. its really not that hard to drop the k-member, just use a fwd engine hanger to hold the motor up.

You can do it without dropping the K-member for most types. But it really only takes 45 minutes to drop it and it makes everything much easier....is there a reason you do not want to drop it?

i want to do it myself but i dont have alot of equipment, nor access to much of it without someone wanting to charge me lol

i'm pretty creative about installing stuff, but if its going to be that hard without dropping the K-member, then i need to find some other alternative.

maybe shorties?

shorties wont get you what your looking for.. go with longtubes.. you can install the macs i know without the k member drop.. BUT. its a PITA... a nice piece of square tubing across the lip where the hood closes on the fenders and a couple of strong eye bolts running from the tubing down to the alternator bolt holes works fantastic for a engine hold

if you dont mind me asking, where did you find your MAC LT's?? do you like em, and have you had any problems with em? and what midpipe did you use. I found a pair of MAC LT's used for $200, so it's definately appealing if i can figure out how to hoist the engine out lol

I wouldnt lay tubing across my fenders for one. If you cant use them then let me know and I will buy the headers from ya LOL. I am in arizona and dont mind paying someone to do it for me.

you cut the tubing off so it doesnt span on top of the fenders, only on the rails that are under the hood....

i like my mac LT's some people hate em but i dont know if they ever actually have ever owned em.. most peoples complains is about the coating, a nice spray of header paint would take care of that.. for 200 bucks you cant go wrong

i really dont have an opinion on the coating, my car rarely leaves the garage (i'm guessing i have about 2,000 miles on em in a 2 year span)

Edit: and the square tubing works fantastic, ive done it on many cars.. and no it doesnt go across the whole fender just in the inner lip where the engine bay is. cover the ends in some rags and you dont have to worry about it.

Unless you want to take an entire weekend just to get the bolts out of the heads you better drop the K. All you need is a jack and a piece of 2x6x12 wood to support the engine under the oil pan. People are gonna tell you not to do it cause it can cause damage but they either know nothing or did it wrong. I have installed 5 sets of longtubes that way and not a single oil pan bent. Really dropping the K is the only way to go.

The biotch about them is you have to take them back off to drop the transmission for a clutch job. They really suck to install. I have them. I wished I never would have got them. I had to have the trans out once for a clutch job, and I have to have it done again because the clutch is not disengaging. So a job I could do myself turns into a job I pay my tuner shop 400 dollars to do, because I don't want the headache.

the above statement is not true for all brands. some do not get in the way when doing a clutch job.
