Hey guys I just got my trickflow valve springs in the mail. I am just wondering if it matter which keepers i use for what valve. I know the retainers matter because it changes the install height. The keepers came in two sperate bags with different shims in the bags, and I cant find anything that says which valve they go on, does it matter which shim or keeper i use on each valve?

And also when i check ptv clearance do I need to do it to ALL valves, or just one exhaust and one intake? Also for checking the clearance can I just assemble it without spings, put the pushrod on and the rockers then just drop the valve and measure the clearance between the rocker and valve stem with a feeler gauge?

I would imagine they all use the same keeper, so that shouldn't be an issue. Whether they're 7° or 10° I don't know, but they wouldn't change them between valves. Your best bet for measuring PTV clearance would be to pick up a dial indicator and measure against the rocker tip. I'm not sure how it would work in your method, because you need to remove the head and mic the clay on the piston to see how thick it is, and how much clearance you have. If you didn't rotate the engine over, the clay wouldn't be accurately compressed.

Well I didnt plan on using clay, but I guess that will be easier. So I can just assemble the heads, put them on, with like two bolts, and do the clay thing, and just take them off again right? I assemble everything with pushrods, lifters and all right? And do I need to do it to each cylinder?? Or just one

And I just read that you have to use solid lifters because hydraulic lifters bleed down and give false readings?? True?

The keepers are all the same.

Some guys have make their own "solid" lifter by taking apart a hydraulic lifter and replacing the guts with washers or a piece of dowel rod. There was a thread around here awhile back that would give you the lowdown on how to do it.

oh man so you really do need solid lifters? I dont really wanna take apart my lifters. Can I put them back together how they were once I do? If anyone has that thread that would be nice.

And do I have to check ptv on all cylinders or just one exhaust and one intake?

All you really have to do is two lifters max, enough for one cylinder.

I would probably only clay one cylinder unless the PTV clearance is really close then would think about doing the rest just to make sure.

BTW when I put my TFS stage 1 cam in I bolted it back together and never checked PTV clearance. Pretty close to the same combo that you are running with the P heads. Not saying its the right way to do it but more than likely you will not have a PTV clearance issue.

Yea I just ordered a tfs stage 1, so I am going to be running the same combo, tfs stage 1 and gt40p's. I know I SHOULDNT have clearance problems, but I am not going to degree the cam so I wanted to make sure I didnt have any problems. I'm gonna read that link you gave me, if it doesnt seem worth it, I'll just get it as close to straight up as I can and just do that. Thanks man.
