Quick Question!!!!

Alright Im trying to get my engine started. I primed it good and got the pressure up. All fluids are in and everything is connected (I hope ). i tried to start it and it just cranked very slow, like the starter wasnt powerful enough. What is the problem here?? I want to get this thing started tonight

Battery? What is your compression? It might be too much for a stock starter.

Its a remanufactured stock engine so I think it should be able to handle it
Battery is connected although I am having to "hot wire" it from the sylinoid because it is a bad sylinoid. Shouldnt the battery be working if the starter it working?
I actually have it hooked up to another car because the battery died could that be why its not getting enough power??

It reads about 12.5 on the battery guage. Is that enough to start the engine??

Agreed. Toss your charger on the battery and see how it does. The starter is about the largest drawing item on a car and the battery needs to be in decent shape. It needs to turn over a certain speed to get it to catch.

I dont have a charger. Could i just use another car? If I hooked up the cables to my battery will that also charge it? its at 12.5 on the battery guage, is that enough to start it?

Volts and amps dont always correlate, especially when a battery is not charged.

In general with a battery that's been used to crank too much but otherwise takes a deep cycle charge, it wont catch if cranking volts drop below 10 volts, in my experience.

Yeah, you can use a jumper battery. You might have to rev the other car's engine a little while jumping your car.

And remember to place your negative jumper cable on a clean engine ground away from your battery.

try tacking the battery off the other car hook it to yours and see what happens, beats a jump

My ignition is effed up thats why I have to use the sylinoid. I have someone turn the ignition on to where the battery is on and thats when it reads 12.5 but when I start it from the sylinoid, the battery guage shuts off.

Sounds like the battery doesn't have enough juice to start the car. Use a different battery to start the car, then hook the dying battery up to the running Mustang so it can charge it up.

I tried hooking up the cables directly from the other battery to the batter cables in the mustang and it didnt work

is that just as good as switching batteries?

could also be a poor ground, might want to check the ground on the block and any others you come across.

I never connected this cable, some people said it could be to some aftermarket thing. Could this be the problem? What if I connected the other negative side of the jumper cable to the engine??
i also see some smoke sometimes coming from the negative side of the jumper cable. is that bad?

alright I got it to crank pretty well now. I had the battery cables hooked up to another battery while it was attatched to the dead one and I guess it charged it up a little. i tried to start it and it cranked nicely. But now its not catching. I checked the distributor and it was a little off and I did a rough alignment of the distributor but is there any other reason why it could not be catching?

when ever i try to top dead center it and adjust the distributor, I start it up, it cranks but doesnt turn over. Then I top dead center it again and check the distributor and the rotor is always like 180 degrees away from spark plug 1.

Make sure the #1 piston is at TDC align the Dizzie and while it is cranking turn the Dizzie a bit to get it to catch. Sometimes that real slow turn over is from too advanced timing.

from a past experiance with a sn95, maybe the same problem.. when we changed the starter there was oil in between the starter where it mounts to the car, that might have somthing to do with the ground, you might want to check that and whipe it off real good.. after we did that it started right up.! thats just what happen to my buddys car/ this may-not be your problem!

thanks for the comments be I got the car to crank really well. I just needed to charge the battery. Now I just cant get it to turn over.
