Any reason these wouldn't work with a hydraulic flat tappet cam? They're Trick flow TW heads, and they say theyre only supposed to work with hydraulic roller cams.... I hadn't heard that the heads were 'either-or', and I know people use E7s, GT40s, and other heads designed with roller cams in mind on flat tappet old 302s all the time... but wanted to make sure they'd work on my old school 351 if I used em.

Your best bet is to call Trickflow. They were very helpful when I bought these heads years ago. You know these are O ring heads right? If you never plan on adding boost or spray, not worth the added expense. And the O ring heads gaskets I remember cost a fortune back then. May be cheaper now...
I can't see any reason you can't use a hyd flat tappet cam. As long as you get the right length push rods. You will need to get the guide plates too if they are not included, and hardened push rods.

i messaged summit (who owns trick flow). they shoudl work, one way or another, just wondering what id have to do to get them to work.

about the gaskets... summit only recommends some $65 ford racing head gaskets for these heads... will those work or does it require something more ridiculous?

I think I paid more than that for my O ring head gaskets way back when...I guess they have come down a bit. I'd go with whatever Trickflow recomends. You're going to like the power change. It's not earth shattering, but on the 302, I could really feel it come on strong right past 3k rpm, and just keeps pulling hard.

That'll be nice... cause right now the 351 hits 4k and falls on its face.

That sounds more like a cam problem than a head problem. THe 351 should make decent power up to at least 5-6k. If you have the heads off, you may want to consider a different cam, or make sure what you have does not have a lobe wiped, or installed wrong. I have read about stock timing sets being installed straight up that had the dot stamped on the wrong tooth from the mfgr on one of the gears. Of course a nice roller conversion would be cool....
