Hey guys, i'll be going to the New York City area for 2 days next week. I've never been there. And its intimidating with it being such a huge city. I know mike (grn92lx) is close to the city, anyone else? Anyone able to give me some good hotels to stay at? I wanted to see the statue of liberty for sure, not sure what else. I've looked into the tours on a couple sites but they dont offer hotel pick up, so im kinda lost on how parking will work. So yea, just looking for some wisdom!

IM ALL EARS!

a nice hotel will have parking. I would just take the subway to everything you want to see. I was just there like 2 months ago showing my girl around. She had never been there. Ellis island, Statue of liberty, times square, rockafella center, central park. There is tons of stuff to do, i would just do a search online.

As for hotels, most nice ones are going to be expensive but you get what you pay for. Check any hotel website(hotels.com, expedia, etc).

I agree, when I go to the city I take the train in and then either walk, cab or take the Subway. Not worth risking the car. While your down there near the Statue, you can take a walk to the site of 9/11, which is right there in lower Manhattan. The Empire State building is always a good deal, Central Park, Rockafeller Center. The good thing is they are all reletively close to each other, and although the city is massive, you can make your way around to some good places in a couple days. Pick exactly what you think you would want to see and get an idea where it is.

Always can have a good time there!

I've driven in the city before but never in the stang, I took the saturn If you have a car with you, just park it in a parking garage. Can't help you on hotels. I was just in Manhattan friday night for a concert right down the block from penn station on 34th st. If your going with a girl, go see the rockafeller tree. Its on 7th ave between 49th and 50th if I remember.

I would say walk with your hands in your pockets, don't look at anyone and don't let anyone try to sell you anything.

DONT go near China Town... Little Italy (right next to China town go figure) isn't bad and has some good places to eat. Might not be much fun walking around in the cold, but I agree with the bring a girl to Rockafeller...

I will be in NYC this weekend,. Friend from Queens Bday so were going out in the city! Can't wait!

Come on your from Detroit, talk about a crazy town. Actually Ann Arbor is a pretty nice area. Always went there to visit Ford/GM/Chrysler for business.
You'll be fine in NY. I heard that the Sheraton in Midtown Manhattan is pretty good.
I'm going to NY this Saturday to do some Christmas shopping and taking the kids to Radio City. You definitely need a plan when you go to NY. Especially this time of year cause it's cold as hell. You can't just walk around outside all day.
A great place to eat is Tony's Di Napoli near Times Square. They have the best food and it is very reasonable. It's located at 147 West 43rd Street. You should call ahead to make a reservation. Ph# 212-221-0100. You won't be sorry. Have a great time.

Yea the tree in Rockafeller Center is definitely something to check out this time of year. Theres also ice skating next to the tree, I dunno if your into that but its a good time. I was just in NYC for a concert about 2 weeks ago, and it was WICKED cold, so make sure you got lots of warm clothes...the tri-state area around this time of year is cold as balls.

Yea i figured monday we would check out the tree, ice skate, and then grab some food. Tuesday maybe check out the Statue of liberty and do the Rockafeller view tour . Then outside of that, i dont have anything specific in mind. Anyone got any tips on nice restaurants to eat at?

I just remembered that they actually limit the amount of people that are allowed to go out to the statue of liberty. So if that is something you want to do, get there early! Me and my girl got there too late so we ended up taking a boat cruise out of Battery park which was pretty cool and not that expensive. It cruises around the lower half of manhattan, the statue of liberty and ellis island.
