when me and my friend were timing my car last night we took out that little plastic plug that goes to the dist.(thats what your supposed to do anyway) and when i went to double check the timing a few minutes ago (i'ts been backfiring every now and then) the plug was missing, so i'm guessing one of us misplaced it . anyways, where can i get one of those, and how will it effect my car within the next few days? the mark is right on "time". any help would be sweet!

thanks guys

p.s. would the backfiring be because of the timing? we just got done adjusting the valves (which btw still arent adjusted right even after we watched the lifters while we did them) on my cast-iron gt-40's

oh yeah, and i still have no power

The SPOUt connector is what allows spark advance. You are running locked out at your base timing right now. That could certainly cause some backfires and a lack of performance.

You can get one from a J/Y - a lot of Fords use those connectors.
Or just make a jumper wire.
Also some folks put the wire on a switch so they just flip the switch rather than remove the SPOUT connector. Do note that heat under the hood there can take out switches.

Good luck.

Just a suggestion:

If you happen to have a municipal airport nearby, stop by and see if you can grab up an aircraft circuit breaker. It'll be cheap and they're designed to handle the heat and vibration.

u dont have to, just get a little piece of wire and complete the connection where the spout connector goes, its nothing special, get a paperclip and wrap it in electrical tape or something...

It depends where you have your timing set. I have run locked out timing before - no issues. But I had it set in the mid 20's*.

If you need to drive it and dont have any connectors to make a 3" jumper wire that will plug into the harness, I would even take a small piece of insulated scrap wire (bare the ends) and jamb the ends into the connectors on the SPOUT harness. It should work - just make sure the wires cant come out.

Daggs, nice tip with the CB - I never knew that (nor do I know what an aircraft CB looks like or that it can be used for this).
