On a recent 1000 mile trip I've decided I want to install some VERY quiet mufflers that won't kill my horsepower. My current setup and it is just too loud for comfortable cross country cruising. I want a setup that is only a little louder than stock. I have a 1993 coupe with the new coyote engine, no cats and the following: Kooks custom stainless headers, matching 3" SS X- pipe, Bassani SS catback ( with small mufflers ).

What mufflers should I change to that will make this car very quiet and NOT kill the horsepower?

Thanks!

The original dynomax turbo muffler is probaly the best all around muffler still or any turbo muffler that a muffler shop might have. The empty metal welded mufflers have too much noisy resonance.

put a dynomax race bullet before the muffler, so you will have 4 mufflers. The race bullets are small and should fit in any straight section of the exhaust. No matter what muffler you get, a 3" system will never be anywhere near as quiet as stock. You could also put a sound deadener under the carpet.

is the catback 3" and how long are the mufflers exactly

I've been really surprised by how quiet my set up is, at least until you get on it. I'm running magnaflow 14239 mufflers, and otherwise have 1 7/8" kooks headers with 3" collectors, custom 3" H pipe, and 3" cat back with 3" tailpipes out the back. Cruising under 2000 rpm sounds nearly stock; I hear some rear axle whine and tire/road noise, and not much engine. Romp on it above 2500-3000 rpm, and the engine noise level picks up considerably....

I'll need to get under there and measure, but it seems like the mufflers are about 4"x8"X13 or about 5"x9"x16" with 3" stock style tailpipes

On my old Maverick I tried flowmasters...couple different kinds actually. 40 series were loud. I think the other set was maybe a 50 series? Was supposed to be 3 chamber and a lot quieter...and it was, but still was too loud for my taste. I like quiet. I built an X pipe for it which helped considerably compared to the straight duals and dumps. Then I found a pair of dynomax super turbo mufflers that would fit, welded those in. They sounded GREAT. Quiet at idle, full throttle you could hear it but it was nowhere near attention getting. I liked the "throaty" sound when on the throttle a lot better than Flowmasters...even though flowmasters do sound good, just too loud even the "quiet" ones. At idle the turbos are really nice. Barely hear them in the car with the radio off.

Dynomax VTs

I think I'm going to go with 2.5" Dynomax VTs,

#17159 4.5" x 9.75" x 16" case & 21" overall

These ought to be quiet and not hurt performance, right?

don't the turbo mufflers have fiberglass fill that eventually burns out and gets louder?

I've had dynomax super turbos on my basically stock 90 for a long time now and I would say that is true. They aren't particularly loud but I do remember when first installed they were very quiet - seemed no different then stock.

One thing I do not like is that they seem the loudest (drone, etc) in the 2K RPM Range.
