racing harness and new seats

can i install a racing harnes with my fctory bucket seats? Any one here done this? What are good racing buckets to put in? Best place to buy them?

im installing my corbeau fx-1 pro seats this weekend with sparco harnesses. I'll post pics when done.

I think you need the holes in the seats to actually do it right, otherwise they wont stay in position. And be sure to at minimum get a harness bar or equivilent to keep the ends of the harnesses going straight back from the seat. If you dont, its just a safety hazzard and you'd be better off with your stock seat belt.

I have sparco 3 point club harnesses....they keep you ass in the seat....one of my favorite mods and will continue to do these to my cars in the future

Are those harnesses bolted to the floor in the rear??? If so....

If you bolt your harness BELOW your neck it's very very bad.... Because..

Lets say you get in to a front end collision. Your car stops and you don't, so your harness holds you in place. The problem is that since the top of the harness is BELOW your neck, as you move forward the belt will compress your spine..

Try it with a pegboard, piece of string and some thumbtacks. Arrange the string and tacks in a side-view mock-up of your car seat and harness mounting points. One tack for the floor mount at the seat front, one for where they go over the top of the seat and one for the mount behind the seat. The tacks should be in a "triangle"..

You will see that as you push the front of the string as if it was stopping a body it will try and pop the tack on the top out. This is the downward force on your spine.

here are some picks. the harnesses are bolted to where the rear seatbelts bolted to the floor under the rear seat. I'm either gonna order a sparco harness bar or get a Steeda 4-point roll cage and weld on a bar for the harnesses.

Alot of people seem to not know this. Your stock seat belts are safer than harnesses at this point.

not if its run through the seat right. It will compress the seat also, so it cancells it out. As long as the harness is level with your shoulders from the holes in the seat to your shoulders, you are good.

I suppose that is true.. I don't know how good of a job it does though. I would prefer to have a bar myself....

Anyone know for sure??

Well, I got to see a guys car after a wreck at Sebring, had a setup close to yours. The left shoulder belt got ripped by the seat due to the angle, and the other shoulder belt ripped through the fiberglass back and broke the guys arm. All of this was made worse by the fact that he still nailed his head on the wheel and almost broke his neck.... get them installed correctly and dont use them till you do... Right now you are safer without a seatbelt...

Race stang i have a harness bar im waiting to install in my car now, the install looks real easy but the retailer i purchased it from sent the wrong heim joints so im waiting for parts. The seats looks real nice.

If that guy with a Sebring bought real FIA approved seats with FIA approved harnesses, he would be fine. NO SEAT THAT IS FIA APPROVED WILL HAVE THE HARNESSES RIP THE FIBERGLASS. APC seats are not FIA aproved, niether are Weapon R harnesses.

Where do you guys get your harness bars?

How are the seat brackets for corbeau seats. I dont know if anyone else notices but the 96-98 leather seats sit higher in the front. It bugs me. I'm wondering if the corbeaus sit flat. I want to buy some corbeau TRS seats pretty soon and wondering what peoples opinions are on them

DO NOT BUY CORBEAU TRS SEATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had them in my last car for one week untill the thigh bolster padding split in two were they were glues together. I sent them back to corbeau and got the fx1 pro seats as a trade. I love them, and have had them for almost two years now. the brackets from corbeau are great too. they sit fine in the car. corbeau has a great customer service team as well, cause in addition to the swap they did for me, these are the second pair of fx1 pro seats because the other ones faded from the sun while sitting at my work with the windows down. thats the only bad thing about their seats, they dont hold up well to direct sunlight, cause they fade.

Two things.
1. Do not use a harness without a roll bar. If you roll over and the roof crushes you are stuck upright and could break your neck.

1. I'm well aware of the dangers.. but in some cases, people like myself are not ready to go with a full cage. I believe the harness bar is fine. It's the same old debate about whether a seat belt is better or not... Yes, they can save your life, but in some cases, you would be better or without it... I choose to have the harness bar until in can install a 4 or 6 pt bar.

2. Most articles say 40 degrees.. But I agree with this one.

Lastly, some race clubs are not allowing harness seat belts without a race seat. It can also be unsafe without the sub belt and without the harness going through the seat.
