I want to put R&P on my 65 V8. I already have MasterPower disc brakes on it, so I don't want to go MustangII. I have heard of Tempo and Taurus swaps. Does anyone know what I need to have, and do to use one of these Rack and Pinion systems?
Thanks, Kent

There are a few companies that make R&P conversion kits for the early mustangs. TCP makes one but it aint cheep. Do a google search (mustang + Rack and Pinion conversion) and it will bring up what you are looking for. Years go one of the mustang mags did a write up on a rack and pinion swap before there were any kits out there.

If my expeirence with my tranny swap was any indication you can proable do it your self a whole lot cheaper without a kit if you can locate the right parts and have any enginering know how.

That would be the only choice for me since I have a 73 and conversion kits are not made for my year. I have been seriously thinking about doing it but haven't commited myself to tackling the job yet.

R&P

Thanks for the info. I'm leaning toward FR, but not until they solve the header riddle. Also I heard that Steeroids was working on a kit. Does anyone know anything about this company?

I too have been researching Rack and Pinion setups for my '65 GT. I think I am going to get the Randall's Rack:
http://www.randallsrack.com/
My daughter has a hard time parking it with 225-60's on the front, so power is a must. I don't think FR has a power option. You can check out the Steeroids made by Car Chemisty here:
http://www.carchemistry.com/steeroids.html
But I don't think the open heim joints for tierod ends look very good for a daily driver.
If I had the money, I would probably go with TCP though.

Go to Cheapies web site he has a pic of tauras r&p in his 69 vert, it tells what you need to do it, but it dont tell you the measurements of the crossmember that it bolts to, this is due to liabilties, I just got done do it to my 69 fastback, it is all trial and error on the fitament, take your time and get the right parts and you can do it.
:nice:

Whoa that looks like quite a challange. In order to do a Rack and Pinion install on a 73 would require a lot of research and fabrication. I guess I'm up to it but it would be quite a challenge to start from scratch and get it right. I'm going to keep searching and when I get enough of the right information together I'll share it with you guys.
