I just bought a radar detector becouse the local township just trained some of the residents to use radar guns. You will not get a ticket but instead a letter from the town every time you are busted and the 3rd time they send a notice to the state. That way if you do get pulled over by the law you will not get off with a warning. They are really cracking down on loud exhaust, tint ect and a fine for that is around $190. Maybe I should put my cats back on???
That is insane...where do you live? This had better not be a trend...sounds like a good way for some radar gun bearing residents to get beat up or shot...
I am getting a growing number of false alarms on the Ka band of recent. So I have placed my Escort in frequency counter mode. Over the last year, I have noted that there has never been a false alarm above 35.5Ghz. And all the false s have been below that frequency. 33-34Ghz seems to be where most of the false s are happening. I wish I could also lock out frequency ranges. If I get an alert on for example 35.760Ghz, its a LEO. What is interesting to note is If there is another alert on 35.530, its also an LEO but a different one. Makes me think they are channel selectable which totally makes sense to me.
The small township I live in has no police of its own, only the county sheriff. It has really grown over the last few years and due to numerous people complaining about speeding that was the idea to solve it. I live just outside of Appleton WI. I just like to mess with them when I catch some one shooting. I'll jump on the brakes drop it down a couple of gears and get on it just back to the speed limit. My car is very loud!! Ford Racing headers, off road X and Magnaflow Magnapacs.
Is it possible to wire radar detectors into the car's electrical system, so that it will automatically turn on when you start the car?

Just got my dad the new Valentine 1 for Father's Day. It's insanely good at picking up radar... The bogey counter is a must... It's nice to have front, back, and side arrows...
And I've heard nothing but good reviews from it! I'll update sometime on how he likes it.
I would say 9 outta 10 times, if you get pulled over for speeding over the posted limit AND have a Radar Detector present .....

Well, I've NEVER been pulled over for speeding and just received a warning. Probably because I don't have tits. I think I'll take my chances with a radar detector.
There are lots of ways to fight it, but you really need more information on what type of radar, etc. he was using. The police are legally required to give you this and other information (model, calibration info and dates, etc.) upon request (even after the fact) and your ticket will be thrown out if they cannot provide it since you are unable to reasonably defend yourself.
One of the interesting things will be the type of radar used. If it is the older style, the radar will not be accurate enough to differentiate your car from the semi, and would return a reading from the largest object in its bandwidth. Many newer non-laser styles of guns will still get severely distorted results from large objects including trucks, road signs, and trees.
Another interesting thing would be to see if in the officer's notes he says the radar gun read 98 or what. If it says it read 98, you should get it thrown out since he was moving and would mean you'd be travelling around 75 mph. If you were theoretically going 98 and he was travelling 75 mph, it is possible the reading would have had to exceed the maximum reading for the gun!
