I did a bit of a search but came up with nothing.
For this topic, say an electric fan cooled aluminium radiator with a 160* thermostat is being used on a 400hp 331. Temp range is winter: 40*F coldest and summer: 105*F absolute MAX.
What problems would one uncover if they tried to use a radiator tranny cooler as an engine oil cooler? (Using a manual trans)
Would the input and output fittings be too small to flow enough?
I can't think of anything else that would be a problem, since the radiator is on the OTHER side of thermostat it should stay at or below what the thermostat opens at right? Could the oil get TOO cold?
EDIT: Ok I've thought of a couple of other things that might be bad.
1. If it corrodes, water can get in the oil.
2. The engine won't warm up as fast, unless you thermostatically controlled the flow to the cooler. - Although I think a seperate oil cooler would have the same problem, but not as severe.
Does that sound right?
