whats up guys i just put this head unit in my car about a month ago and it has been working fine until a couple days ago. when im in the car and not driving if i put the volume up to loud the display lights will go out and nothing will come out of the speakers unless i turn it off and back on again. if i start to drive it will go off everytime after a couple of minutes. when this happens only the display lights go out the screen stays lit up and it still has power

when i hooked it up all i did was hook up the power ground and memory wires and the speakers straight to the head unit not the amp thats supposed to be underneath. anyone got any ideas for me?
thanks

Check your ground. Then after that recheck the ground. Then triple check the ground.

In my experience ground is most common cause of all failure in stereo equipment.

sounds like a short in the wiring kicking a circuit breaker, ok if reset. check to make sure all your connections are clean and can't touch anything else. sounds like maybe the vibrations of driving or high volume could be triggering the short. good luck!

Yes, yellow is your constant power and red would be the memory. Black is always ground. What brand deck is this? It's my experience with JVC's that they have things like this happen often. Also, where did you buy the deck?

I think your best route of attack would be to check into any warrenty it may have and see if they can offer you a replacement.

Clarion has a good reputation and shouldn't have many problems. If it's a motorized face, you may just have a bad ribbon and replacing it isn't very expensive. But have it checked first to find the specific problem.

actually when you do hit a bump or slam the door the radio will go right off would that be a short inside the head unit or in my car?

Could be a short behind the radio, in the radio, or in the fuse box. Many things could be the problem, ground, memory, constant....

you could try routing your own power wires from another source--like the fuse box and ground it somewhere else.... This way you don't have to rely on the stock radio wiring...and then at least you will know if it's the deck that has the problem....but from what you've said...sounds like a short somewhere...
