Ok, so my dads outlaw (dirt track racing) car the second gear is out in. and so they were looking for 3.25 rear end gears. But here the question, a 97 gt has a 8.8 rear end right? and what does an auto 97 gt have in the rear as in gears??

I'm not completely sure, but I think they would be 2.73's. However, some of them may have come with 3.27's, but that may have been the 98's.

yes, 8.8, but it's a slightly different length compared to the 99+ cars. Also, if you can get the VIN we could tell you the gears

Depends. I'm pretty sure a '97 GT auto with the 17'' wheel option has 3.08's whereas the 5spd comes with 3.27's, but with the 16'' wheel it has the 2.73's.
