i have a 67 fastback and i just got new mid eye springs installed but the rearend is .5-1" to low so i want to raise it that much. how can i do this? longer shackles?
thanks
Yes you could make your own, but if they get a little on the long side they could add to oversteer (which could be a benefit in these nose heavy cars) or depending on your year they may contact the rear apron at full spring compression.
not to be a jerk, but you could go with the right springs for that ride height. mid eyes are designed to lower the car about .5-1 inch, so the regulars would get you back to where you want to be.
where are you located? i've got some fairly new standard springs that i might trade for some mid eyes if you're close.
You forgot to tell him to shelby drop the thing and granada-ize the front end.
That's what I'm doing after seeing my neighbor install $2K worth of disk brakes into a '67 fastback and then seeing your site.
"krash", you got it buddy. Pass the word - "You do not, repeat, do not have to spend a ton of money on the front end of these things to make them perform". Always remember the "Magic of Rear Steer" as layed out at HistoricMustang.com .
Heck, we out ran Vic Edelbrock and his two daughters, plus the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) flagship machine all in the same race the "Day the Earth Stood Still" down at Daytona. Our low budget racer came in on an open trailer, they had numerous closed trailers with tons of money invested and they thumbed their nose at us until the green flag fell. From Florida it must have been a long ride back to California for the Eldelbrock clan and hate to even think about the SAAC group having to drive back to the Northeast. I understand the SAAC R-model has since been sold - no wonder!
Personally I wouldn't use long shackles as they tend to make the spring sag after awhile. I have even seen some leaf springs bend the wrong way after using long shackles. I've tried air shock too, yes the ride is harsh.
