Points can be very difficult to work with. Even though the gap might be correct, the dwell angle could be off. It almost imperative that you have a dwell meter when playing with points.

Isn't the dwell and the gap related? When you adjust the gap, the dwell changes as well. A dwell meter is advisable to get it dead on.

I didn't read all the above but if you haven't changed the condenser yet then do so because this sounds like a classic case of condenser crapout.

I replaced the points and condenser yesterday, and she runs like a champ. Thanks to everyone for their input.
