I went to Bradenton during Ford Nationals. I thought my times were decent for the first time going down the 1/4 mile track ever. I had drag radials on at 21 psi. I have headers 3.73 gears, under drive pullies, Cobra upper and lower intake. Also I have a off-road H pipe and cherry bomb mufflers. Steeda springs and struts and shocks. Upper and lower control arms in the back. I guess at the most 230rwhp based on what I've read for years. I didn't know what RPM to launch at I'm guessing this was about 3 grand. Best time. Great track. Not going to mess with timing.

R/t .572
60' 1.890
330 5.775
1/8 9.036
MPH 75.78
1000 11.837
1/4 14.227
MPH 94.33

But the next week I went to are local track. I had a best of 9.1xx and a 2.0xx 60' time. I had the same set up as above, i took out the spare tire and back seat here thinking I would get a better time with less weight. This track sucks. I had one run of 9.8 with a 2.6 60' time. Yes wtf I know, my worst run ever. Mostly ran in the 9.3s the rest of them. Oh I beat a GT500 with my 9.3, got him with my reaction time that made him spin even more.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not a great driver. I've only been to the track a handful of times. I thought I was an ok driver. What can I do to get better? To break the 8s' I know the car has it in it. Maybe I should have left the tire and back seat in.

That's a pretty good time considering you have modest performance mods. I'd say you have about 30rwhp more than stock or 225rwhp.

Your top end mph seems way low. Even compared to the 1/8th mph, I figured you should see 97-98 mph.

Not really. My 1/8 trap was 81.0mph so my 1/4 trap was 25.8% higher. If you apply that math to his 1/8, the 1/4 trap should be 95.33 so he's only 1mph off.

Interesting, all of our cars gain over 20 mph on the top end. My brothers car will trap 87-88 in the 1/8th and 110-111 in the 1/4. Mine will trap 85-86 in the 1/8th and 107-109 in the 1/4 and mine has NO top end.

Back when trapping 80-81 in the 1/8th I would hit 103 in the 1/4. 20 mph or better is what I have seen, but every car is different.

I'd say the top-end is low just based on the fact that my 1990 GT went 95mph with 3.73 gears, shorty headers, and a catback.

Thats true, but theres always reasons one car is faster than another. Mine with his mods went 103 mph to compare.

My problem is that my tach is from a four cyl. I might be leaving it in third gear to long. The one time I hit four earlier a had 96mph but ran a 14.29. Slower I know. I just want to know what I quit making power at, so I know when to shift.

with stock cam I shift around 5200 myself...my 95 with stock longblock and 3.27's went 13.51@99 it trapped 80.0 in the 1/8. My old 89 coupe went 13.6@99 and trapped 79 in the 1/8th also with stock long block and 3.31's....and my 07 trapped 82 in the 1/8th and 107 on the big end. The hot weather at bradenton didn't help that weekend either...i'm still peeling from a nasty sun burn! YUCK!! LOL

For what it's worth, the 4cyl tach might not be the issue, the fact that it's a Ford tach might. My stock tach is 1000 RPM off. I actually shift my car at 6500 RPM on the stock tach. Let me try and dig up my video from the dyno. It shows the tach running right to 7000 RPM.

My experience with stock vs. Autometer is that at low RPM they're close but the stocker is still off, and then the higher you rev it the more off the stocker gets.

Oh and in the 1/8th my best time was 8.9 on street tires at 40psi with a 2.1 60' with stock lower control arms and steeda HD upper with poly axle pivot bushings. And thats full weight with stock 3.08 gears with the 2 tens in the back and half a tank of fuel. Just cobra upper/lower and underdrives.
