First off I like to tow my car up so I use my buddys car hauler he has no problem with it. I just need to find a truck each time to tow it up. I found one and he said he would tow it up with no problem but the last minute he back out. WFT SO I wanted to race so I drove my car 45miles to the track. Was going good on the way up made it to the track. I got there the first time out ran a 9.73 come on now I know she has more than that. I played with tire pressure timing the carb and nothing was working at all. I ran to 9.8's and then a 10. But I know my car can run a 9.5 I could not hook and for some reason she was not pulling hard out of the hole like she does.

hmmmmm,

what were your 60 ft times? What were your trap speeds? With what you have posted you should be running about a low 15 in the 1/4....you are not too far off with the mods in your signature.

Sounds like a mixed match combo to me.

Other than the fact of the heads being stock. I think it should be running flat 14's in quarter.

OK my 60FT times where 2.330 to 2.368. OK I ran 5 times and my 3 of trap speeds where 72mph and the other two where 70mph. The big thing I had was getting into second gear I would have to force it into second for it to shift. The last two runs out I just stayed in second till the line the otheres I would go to third.

Those 60fts are really really bad. Was it because you couldnt get any traction or were you grannying the car?

excuse the language, but those 60 fts suck.

one thing to remember - a tenth off your 60ft is roughly 2 tenths off in the 1/4 mile.

also, your MPH is low. for a 9.5 time you should be closer to 73-75mph. this could be due partly to the weather and/or being out of tune. one thing to remember, is generally as you improve your 60 ft (2.0 on street tires should be a good starting point) your MPH is going to drop...

just for comparison. my 90 GT runs 9.27s in the 1/8th at about 74-75mph on a 2.0x 60ft.

my recommendation is to look at your tire/launching situation and also how the car is tuned...

That is bad right off the line I spin but then it feels like the car bogs down on me. I think I just need to tune it up because it was pulling harder with the advance setup on the dist. I caped that and the othere side that went to the carb because the car would backfire at all a Rpms. So that there could have slowed me down.

check your timing.

should probably use 12-14 initial and total advance of 32-34. make sure the timing is fully advanced by 2500-3000 RPM.

assuming your timing checks out, move on to checking the jetting and such in the carb.

I dont have any timing marks at all. I do it all by sound and take it out on test runs to see if it pings. I put smaller jets in the carb to try to get to stop running rich. I think I have 64 jets in now. I have a smaller power valve in there too. The right now still runs rich at idel and when Iam driven. I back it down and then the car dies.
