i'm thinking of buying a 90 lx that's built and it has a ratchet auto shifter.i'm a manual trans guy and don't know anything about how they work.can some one explain and also it has a trans brake about which i am not familiar with.thanks!

ratchet shifters are cool! one push or pull in ether direction gets you to move one gear. then you go to let go, push or pull again to get into the next gear
so from park to drive, you have to pull the shifter 3 times, from park to 1 you have to pull and let go 5 times
I think a transbrake is a method for locking the the transmission into a stop position even though your flooring the gas. then when you let go of it the car launches you. kinda like holding a clutch and flooring the gas.
yea what he said.... but i dont know how to explain a nudge. i guess its just like a ratchet tool, you pull it and it clicks, you nudge it forward and pull again while it clicks. i dont know.... whatever, dude its awesome trust me.
when you release the shifter does it return always to the same position hence the ratchet and some have a lever also.what the extra lever for?going into reverse or park?is there a button on the shifter for the trans brake or where would it be since reaction is important? thanks !

yea, it returns to the same position, the 2nd lever is for stopping you from going into a gear you shouldnt be going into, like drive to reverse. you have to pull it to move to reverse
the transbrake part i dont know, i think they can be setup for automatic engagement or this is a button you hold and let go to launch the car.
The second lever eliminates a mistake of going from park to reverse (or vice versa) or neutral to reverse. Requires the foot on the brake to use the lever just like you need the foot on the brake to move the stock handle while pushing the button. But moving out of reverse to neutral requires no second lever as there's no danger going into neutral. All other gears simply require a push up or down with the handle returning to it's permanent home place in the middle.
