I have been driving stick for 5 years and I have to say I have become fairly smooth with both upshifts and downshifts. Since having my trans rebuilt and clutch replaced, I have been getting frustrated. I have put 380 miles on the new setup so far and I am still having a little hard time getting use to the new setup. The clutch is a fidanza 2.1 and grabs great and the trans is getting smoother, but today I let out the clutch a little too soon, or so I hope and didn't reaaly grind 3rd, but came very close ( I was 3/4 into 3rd gear). It wasn't a high piched grind sound, more or a lower groan like going into reverse on my none syncro truck. And it really pissed me off, since i just spent a $1000 on the rebuild.

How long to when it gets back to normal, an auto is looking kinda nice.

Its alright man it takes time to get used to driving a stick especially other cars.. Im really good at driving my Mustang but when I went to drive my buddies little pickup truck a 4 cyl Ford Ranger stick shift, it was hard to get used to, that thing was a pita to figure out cause it had no tach and the engine was just pathetic to get it moving...

All in good time Im shure you will get the hang of it! Just dont be like a friend of mine that I let drive my car and kill it at the light and freaking out what to do lol.

You probably just need to learn to drive it the way it is now. Your trans has been rebuilt which means everything that had play is now tight, also you have a more aggressive clutch now its going to bite a little harder and quicker. Just adjust your shifting habits to what works best with the new hardware

I think your right, I was just happy to have my car back and wasn't expecting to have a whole new learning curve. I am going to put about 600 miles on it this weekend so hopefully things will get easier.

keep working on it. I got shifter, clutch, and flywheel done at the same time and it was totally different. The first couple miles were full of clunks and rough shifts. Now 2k miles later I love it and realize how precise and wonderful all my components are. I think you will soon come to love it as well.

I did the same thing, except I ended up unhappy with my clutch purchase. It's clattery when my foot is off of it at idle, and it's REALLY stiff. It did take me a few weeks to get used to it again though. Once you hit that break-in period after getting used to it, you will love the improvements.

Also I've found that the IAC restrictor mod does sound cool on deceleration, but on the same token it makes gear changes a bit jerkier. With the resrictor removed, the idle hangs just long enough between gears to make the change smooth as silk with almost no effort.
