Real Bad gas Mileage.

So I have a 96 gt...mods in sig...

I drove real slow and reserved trying to get good gas mileage and there was a fairly high amount of highway driving...cruising at 60-70 mph less than 2500 rpms at all times.

Ive got about 170 miles to most of my tank which was 13 gallons. I have like 1/8 tank left so even if I get about 200 miles to the tank, thats 15 mpg with real easy and a lot of highway driving...

I thought there was people getting like 22-24 mpg on the highway with a 4.6?

Any body else getting bad mileage like me?

Could it be my spark plugs or something causing it?

Ive been hearing a sound that sounds like a ping ping ping but its not pinging..maybe one of my plugs isnt really igniting the fuel?

Also Ive gotten 250+ miles to the tank before not being easy on the car either...

sounds like it's in need of a tune up.

spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, trans flush, coolant flush (just because) and throw in a brake flush for good measure

my 'o2 will get almost 30mpg straight highway, 15 straight city and around 19 mixed

Don't forget cars use a little more gas when it's cold out. I don't drive my stang in the winter but my truck usually gets 18mpg but now that it's cold im lucky to see 15mpg.

Yea, well my air filter is the one that came with my jlt which is like 10 inches long...I guess it could need to be cleaned...it hasnt been cleaned in a year.

Trans has brand new fluid in it, brake flush was just flushed wit new front brakes, coolant flushed a litle while ago.

I need to do spark plugs and fuel filter...i was gonna do the fuel filter but it looked like it was brand new when i looked under the car when I bought it with 88k on the clock.

I've gotten up to 28mpg on the highway, steady 65mph on cruise control for 1.5 hours.

Since the 3.73s, I've been getting at most, 22mpg on highway, 9-15mpg city.

My father's Prius gets 54mpg usually, depending on wind conditions

Mine has been up and down. Sometimes I get around 22 and others it is around 18. There is something amiss and it could be any number of things. The basic tune-up my take care of your problem.
