I just got the car (1991 Hatch 5 speed )aligned and found out that the rear axle is "out of toe" by 3/16." The torque boxes have been shredded and repaired but it appears that they were welded while still slightly bent.

1. Should I get adjustable upper and lower control arms in order to align it properly?
Please note that I just bought new Pro3i lowers and heavy duty Ford uppers so I'd be replacing new parts.

2. Also it seems that the rear axle not being aquare could cause a driveline vibration (which I have). Agreed?

Any other thoughts?

yes no doubt that could cause vibration. Probably the best idea would be to have the torque box's fixed properly.

out of toe would indicate to me that the whole axle housing is bent and would have to be jig welded to make it straight again.

Both rear tires are square with one another its the entire rear axle is angled due to bent/torn torque boxes.

I'd like to open this up for further discussion related to mysterious rear end vibrations. I've read hundreds of posts related to ridding vibrations from our cars but I'm really wondering how much a "torqued" rear axle would influence driveline vibrations. I have not read about anybody checking this out.

Any more ideas, even better, anybody have any experience?

I'd imagine if the torque boxes were beat up that your driveshaft may be twisted as well. I chased a vibration problem for a while, and that's what it ended up being. Replaced it with an aluminum driveshaft, and haven't had a problem since. Good luck.
