Rear axle and brakes help!!!

 I have been comtemplating on whether I should buy a disc brake system or not. I plan on doing it in the future, but for now I can only afford a drum setup. To make a long story short, I bought a used rear end, which has no backing plates or hardware. I am trying to buy a rear drum brakes set, and I have found a few. My problem is that I do not know if they will fit. What do I need to measure? How do I measure it? How do I know if I have a "big" bearing, or a "small" bearing? Has anyone had any experience with the cheap ebay disc brakes setups I see? ANy suggestions? I only have $250 to spend for now. I do know that it is an 8" rearend from a 67 v8 mustang. Thanks guys!!! :hail2:

I took the drums off my 9-inch and replaced them with 12.25-inch Wilwoods. Because of that I have a set of 9-inch (probably the same as the 8s but I am not sure) drum brakes that are now sitting in my garage that I'll sell for cheap.

The large bearing rears were NEVER used on a Mustang, only trucks vans and Broncos got the large (possibly the full bodies like Galaxy too) bearing 9s. So if your 9 was a perfect fit on your stang it is a small bearing 9, which had the same flanges as the 8.

Possible Rear Disk Brake Setup

Killer Medic,

I'm sure others have come across this listing on ebay, but it sounds like it would be a nice option if the bidding doesn't skyrocket. Chances are it'll get past your $250.00 limit in the last hour of bidding, but you never know.

E-Bay rear disk package

Does anyone have any idea where this setup comes from? Is it off a regular production car (which could then be applied to an early Mustang), or is it an aftermarket part ($$$)?

Stainless Steel Brake helped me with very similar questions. We had a modified axle, housing, mounts and drums and they and the local parts store helped me figure it out. I sent pictures with a tape measure in the background so they could see dimensions.
