Just got my 2012 Mustang and am prepping for my first track day. I purchased some HP Plus pads and installing the fronts was a breeze.

When I moved to the rear, first, the caliper took a TON of forced to slide off the pads. When I put in my disc pad spreader to compress the piston, the piston would not recess back into the caliper even after a TON of pressure. I even tried loosening the bleed valve and the caliper still would not budge. I tried hard enough that my disc pad spreader even broke.

This happened on both sides of the rear, as well.

Can anyone tell me if this may be normal and perhaps I'm missing something???

You can't just push them in. You need to rotate the piston with a tool.

Rotating the piston, eh? I haven't had to do that on a rear brake system since my 1991 Dodge Dynasty....

Good to know. I am about due to change the rear pads; did the front last Summer and replaced the pads with Hawk street composite. They are quiet (the stock pads were noisy as ) and stop well, but they emit a lot more brake dust than the stock pads. That's the price you pay for performance, though.

Yea, the parking brake is integrated in the rear caliper so you have to rotate as you compress to get the piston in. What a PITA
