Rear brake / rotor - how to change?

Hey, I've got a major problem with the drivers side rear rotor and brake pads (talk about some bad grooves, this rotor is toast)... I haven't a clue as to how to get the rear rotor off... I have a '66 coupe, and it has rear drums - so no experience with the rear rotors. Can anyone explain how to get those off?

And my car was in an accident, I lost control in the rain and the rear swung around and hit the curb. Needless to say, the pass side tire snapped off (axle actually) and the car ended up sitting on the tire/rim (right under the gas tank)

okay, to the point - they gave me a refurbished rear end assembly - and I went to try and change the brake pads, but I could not press in the caliper all the way or something - i was short by about 1/2" - 3/4" in being able to put on the rear brake pads. Are all 8.8" rears the same? (as far as brake pads are concerned?) I don't know if they put a Mustang rear end in there or not... Would that cause me to not be able to put the brake pads on? I'm figuring either that, or I need to go to Ford and get the compressor tool for the rear piston/caliper. I tried to buy a tool at Advance auto parts, was a universal unit but the two points were not wide enough. So, I had to use a C-clamp on the piston... Any suggestions?

its fairly simple really... all the 99+ and i think 96+ are the same.... the rears are slightly different. there are 4 bolts you need to remove, two larger onesthat remove the assembly from the mount, and the smaller two seperate the caliper its self... on the rears you need to ROTATE the piston not press it. i think it needs to go clockwise.

anyhow, once the caliper is off just remove the rotor. there may be those lil washers that holt it on, just cut them off with wirecutters and discard. then just slide the rotor off... really very easy.

yes for the rear you undo the smaller two bolts on the inside, remove them, and then take the tool from autozone and rotate the piston in. make sure the sliders are ok and well lubed that are on the caliper bracket, make sure not to hurt the rubber boot around the piston when rotating. if you need to take off the rotor you need to remove the two larger bolts and it will come off so that the rotor can be pulled.

I love the brake design of these cars they are SIMPLE to work on.

BTW, I got rotors all arounf, ceramic pads all around (lifetime) for 175 from napa!!! then i neeeded the rear bracket because i had really bad sliders that was another 70 for the PR. still hella cheaper than paying somone else to do it.
