rear disc brakes? still cant figure this out!!!

I am working on putting rear disc brakes on my 93. I have new rear calipers. I dont remeber what year they were for, I got them off ebay a while back, brand new rebuilt. I know they are for the 10.5 rotors and I have those. I believe they were for 94-98 gt. Are these all the same??? What I dont know is where to get stainless steel hoses and banjo bolts to mount to the calipers and what thread and length the banjo bolts must be to work??? I need the lines from the calipers, hard lines from there to go to the center of the rear and T, and then the line from there up. I can do this however I choose because it all has to be done from scratch. What should I do and what have some of you done?

I just need to make sure everything is correct fittings and threads to bolt up.

Well, the rotor size is not determined by the caliper in most situations, it's determined by the caliper bracket used.

94+ gt and 6cyl calipers are meant for NON vented discs, cobras are meant for vented.

For the brake hoses, you just buy 95 mustang hoses for the left and the right, and either cut and flare the matching fittings on, or use adapters. I suggest the cut and flare.

You are also going to need the FMS e-brake cables, careful there are 2 sets, one for a car that has the little pullies by the torque boxes and one for without.

are all calipers the same from 94-04 as far as the fittings on the hoses? Also, when I buy hoses, they will not come with banjo bolts will they? What thread and length are the banjo bolts that I need?

As far as i know, all the 6cyl and gt rears 94+ are the same. Hose's were a bit of a PITA to get, i tried getting them from ford, for a 94, and they told me they didn't make them anymore. So i got them from autozone, i had to order them, but since i went to the store and ordered them i didnt' get charged shipping.

Me personally, i'd take the ford caliper number, goto ford and order the banjo bolts. I'd figure that they will all be the same size.
Might be a bit of trial and error here, since you don't know exactly what you have.

Check these steel braided lines out from Summit. They are a set of 5, both fronts, center rear, and each side in the rear where the factory rubber is on a rear disc car. Will these work if I go to ford and get the correct banjo bolts? I know these calipers I have are for a gt with 10.5 discs and I am sure they are some year between 94-04 or I would not have bought them. Also would the center rear one hook up to the factory location on the body of the car where it then runs to the front of the car?

Actually all 94+ use the same rear calipers, even the cobra/mach/bullit. In those applications, they are fitted with a thinner pad to compensate for the thicker rotor.

I don't think they are the same, a vented rotor is roughly 3 times as thick as a non vented, that would leave you with almost no pad at all on a cobra, we are talking 1/2 an inch +.

I used v6/gt calipers on my car in the back, i had to use a chop saw to widen them alot, to get them over the vented cobra rotors. This was suggested by the guy who owns northracecars.com. Same place i got the cobra mounting brackets.

The caliper is the same design, same strenght, just one is wider inside than the other.

Fox84, you can't just purchase brake lines, it's not that simple. You need the special set for the front, that connects newer calipers to the older brake line.
The backs either require adapters or cutting/flaring with new fittings.

I don't see any hard info on that link you left, but for $123, i'd highly doubt you are getting 5 braided lines, because most of the time they are $100 for the fronts alone.

They aren't exactly the same, but you can use GT/V6 calipers on a Cobra setup.

The actual caliper part that does the clamping is identical on all 94-04 Mustangs. It's the caliper bracket/bridge that holds the pads that is different. On the GT, the gap the rotor fits into is narrow while the Cobra version has a wider gap. Also, the Cobra bracket is connected in the front for added strenght. You can use the GT/V6 bracker on a vented Cobra rotor but you'll need to grind the slot wider so the rotor will fit. Not a tough job.

Also, the pads are the same, except there is less friction material on the Cobra pads. However, if you go to a parts store and buy pads for a Cobra, they give you GT pads. You then need to shave them down to use them. Big PITA. As far as i know only Ford and performance Cobra pads come the correct thickness. You are right though, they are like 1/4" of pad material after shaving them down. Good thing rear pads are cheap
